Effect of Environmental Factors on Germination and Emergence of Invasive Rumex confertus in Central Europe
Published 2015-01-01“…Decrease in seedling emergence from the seeds buried at >0.5 cm may be due to deficiency of light. From our experiments, we conclude that the weed R. confertus normally becomes established in vegetation gaps or due to disturbance of the uppermost soil layer during the growing season through the germination of seeds originating from a long-lived seed bank.…”

Enchytraeids: Small but important ecosystem engineers
Published 2025-01-01“…In this study, we evaluated how the burrowing activities of Enchytraeus albidus and Enchytraeus crypticus affected the X-ray imaged porosity of soil over a 40- day period using two different soils (loamy and silty-clay-loamy soil) sieved to 2 mm and packed at two bulk densities (0.8 and 1 g cm−3). Our findings revealed that while enchytraeids had minimal impact on X-ray imaged porosity, they played a key role in reshaping the soil’s internal structure, increasing pore connectivity and homogenizing pore size distribution. …”
