Chemical Characterization and Differential Lipid-Modulating Effects of Selected Plant Extracts from Côa Valley (Portugal) in a Cell Model for Liver Steatosis
Published 2025-01-01“…In the lipotoxicity model, E. ramosissimum decoction demonstrated the most potent effect, significantly reducing PA-induced neutral lipid accumulation in a dose-dependent manner, while other extracts showed varying degrees of activity. Conclusions: These findings highlight E. ramosissimum’s decoction, rich in kaempferol derivatives, as particularly effective in reducing lipid accumulation in this MASLD cell model while also providing a comprehensive characterization of traditionally used plants from the Côa Valley region.…”

Polydatin retards the progression of osteoarthritis by maintaining bone metabolicbalance and inhibiting macrophage polarization
Published 2025-01-01“…Morphological changes were observed by toluidine blue staining, joint bone metabolism changes were observed by tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase staining, immunohistochemistry was used to observe the expression levels of inflammatory factors and extracellular matrix. MicroCT analysis was conducted to assess changes in the microstructure of subchondral bone trabeculae, and Western blot was performed to measure the expression of nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) signaling pathway and markers of M1 polarization in macrophages.ResultsPD significantly delays the progression of osteoarthritis induced by ACLT, effectively inhibits IL-1β-induced joint inflammation, bone metabolic remodeling and extracellular matrix degradation. …”

Vernolactone Promotes Apoptosis and Autophagy in Human Teratocarcinomal (NTERA-2) Cancer Stem-Like Cells
Published 2019-01-01“…Effects of vernolactone on the expression of autophagy-related genes (LC3, Beclin 1, PI3K, Akt, and mTOR) were evaluated using real-time PCR. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-2,2-diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay, 2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging, and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays were also carried out to evaluate the antioxidant activity of vernolactone. Overall results confirm that vernolactone can exert antiproliferative effects, induce apoptosis and autophagy, and decrease NTERA-2 cell migration in a dose- and time-dependent manner with a very small antioxidant property.…”
