Density of states, black holes and the Emergent String Conjecture
Published 2025-01-01“…Abstract We study universal features of the density of one-particle states ρ(E) in weakly coupled theories of gravity at energies above the quantum gravity cutoff Λ, defined as the scale suppressing higher-derivative corrections to the Einstein-Hilbert action. Using thermodynamic properties of black holes, we show that in asymptotically flat spacetimes, certain features of ρ(E) above the black hole threshold M min are an indicator for the existence of large extra dimensions, and cannot be reproduced by any lower-dimensional field theory with finitely many fields satisfying the weak energy condition. …”

Minimal state models for ionic channels involved in glucagon secretion
Published 2010-09-01“…Then, we simulate dynamic ionic currents following experimental protocols. Our aims are 1) To understand the individual ionic channel functioning and modulation that could affect glucagon secretion, and 2) To simulate ionic currents actually measured in voltage-clamp alpha-cell experiments in mice. Our estimations indicate that alpha cells are highly permeable to sodium and potassium which mainly manage action potentials. We have also found that our estimated N-type calcium channel population and density in alpha cells is in good agreement to those reported for L-type calcium channelsin beta cells. …”

Physiological Properties of Supragranular Cortical Inhibitory Interneurons Expressing Retrograde Persistent Firing
Published 2015-01-01“…The somatodendritic compartment receives and integrates synaptic inputs while the axon relays relevant synaptic information in form of action potentials (APs) across long distance. Despite this well accepted notion, recent research has shown that, under certain circumstances, the axon can also generate APs independent of synaptic inputs at axonal sites distal from the soma. …”

Published 2016-06-01“…This type of spectral projection is furthermore intensified by the fact that the “theatrical representation” is only conveyed to us through the eyes – or possibly dreams – of a group of musicians, without any stage direction, which might situate this visual and aural universe in a given system of reference. The action that unfolds before the spectator thus becomes a projection of his imaginary landscape, the “music of the lost kingdom” of memory, brought forth by the power of utterance. …”
