Erythromycin and clarithromycin modulation of growth factor-induced expression of heparanase mRNA on human lung cancer cells in vitro by Masahiro Sasaki, Takefumi Ito, Masayuki Kashima, Shin Fukui, Noriko Izumiyama, Akiko Watanabe, Masaaki Sano, Yosimasa Fujiwara, Mamoru Miura

    Published 2001-01-01
“…In addition, we examined the effect of erythromycin (EM) and clarithromycin (CAM), which are 14-membered ring macrolide antibiotics that act as biological response modifiers, on the expression of heparanase mRNA induced by growth factors.…”

Aerobic exercise attenuates high-fat diet–induced renal injury through kidney metabolite modulation in mice by Yingzhe Xiong, Yisheng Luan, Lingfeng Yuan, Weihao Hong, Bin Wang, Hua Zhao, Bing Zhang

    Published 2024-12-01
“…Mice were acclimated to the laboratory for 1 week, given 12 weeks of being on their respective diets, and then the Con + Ex and HFD + Ex groups were subjected to moderate intensity aerobic treadmill running 45 min/day, 5 days/week for 8 weeks.Results We found that HFD-induced obesity mainly impacts kidney glycerin phospholipids, glycerides, and fatty acyls, and aerobic exercise mainly impacts kidney glycerides, amino acids and organic acids as well as their derivatives. We identified 18 metabolites with significantly altered levels that appear to be involved in aerobic exercise mediated prevention of HFD-induced obesity and renal damage, half of which were amino acids and organic acids and their derivatives. Conclusion Aerobic exercise rewires kidney metabolites to reduce high-fat diet-induced obesity and renal injury.…”

Women’s exposure to intimate partner violence and its association with child stunting: findings from a population-based study in rural Rwanda by Jean Nepo Utumatwishima, Ingrid Mogren, Kristina Elfving, Aline Umubyeyi, Ali Mansourian, Gunilla Krantz

    Published 2024-12-01
“…Exposure to physical violence before pregnancy and sexual violence during pregnancy was associated with higher odds of child stunting; the adjusted odds ratios were 1.29 (95% CI, 1.01–2.03) and 1.25 (95% CI, 1.04–2.01), respectively. Conclusion Women’s exposure to physical and psychological violence is associated with an increased risk of child stunting. …”

Assessing spatiotemporal trends of riverbank erosion using a GIS-DSAS-based integrated approach by Jahid Hasan, Md. Alif Uz Zaman, Mst Ilme Faridatul

    Published 2025-01-01
“…We used the USGS’s cloud-free Landsat 4–5 TM and Landsat 8 OLI satellite data, with analyses performed using ENVI 5.1 and ArcGIS 10.8. We used the Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI) to find riverbanks and the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) to look at changes in banklines. …”
