A Perspective on Electrical Stimulation and Sympathetic Regeneration in Peripheral Nerve Injuries
Published 2024-11-01“…The current standard of care relies on the slow and inefficient process of nerve regeneration after surgical intervention. Electrical stimulation (ES) has been shown to both experimentally and clinically result in improved regeneration and functional recovery after PNI for motor and sensory neurons; however, its effects on sympathetic regeneration have never been studied. …”

Mapping teacher wellbeing in Slovakia: insights into resilience, relationships, and support needs
Published 2025-05-01“…Rather than collapsing wellbeing into a single metric, we apply a simple theoretical model that distinguishes self-perceived competence and affect, providing a more comprehensive representation of teacher wellbeing.ResultsOur findings reveal distinct patterns based on gender and years of service in how teachers experience hedonic wellbeing (happiness and satisfaction) and eudaimonic wellbeing (optimal functioning and meaningfulness). Relationships—both within and beyond the profession—emerge as critical determinants of wellbeing, surpassing formal support structures in importance.DiscussionThese results inform recommendations for professional development initiatives grounded in a national perspective, with the potential to enhance teacher support networks and address systemic gaps. …”

Inhibition of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid to reduce neutrophil extracellular trap production improves lung condition in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease mice
Published 2025-12-01“…The metabolism of serotonin to 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) in platelets may be the key to this difference. Objective The study aimed to determine whether 5-HIAA can influence NET production and thus play a role in COPD.Methods After a 4-hour co-incubation with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and 5-HIAA, NET and ROS levels in the culture medium were measured by ELISA, and NET production with aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) expression in adherent cells were analyzed by immunofluorescence.A COPD model was established in C57BL/6 mice through smoke exposure combined with LPS tracheal administration, followed by selegiline or 5-HIAA treatment. Post-intervention, lung function tests and sample collection were performed. …”
