Comparison of Aluminum Alloy and Copper Friction Stir Burnishing Tools Combined with Direct Energy Deposition Arc Process on Microstructure and Microhardness of 316L Stainless Stee...
Published 2025-02-01“…The direct energy deposition arc process is widely used for fabricating medium and large components with moderate geometric complexity but often results in coarse microstructures and inconsistent hardness. This study introduces a hybrid manufacturing approach combining the friction stir burnishing process with the direct energy deposition arc by a gas–metal arc welding technique to refine the microstructure and enhance the microhardness of components fabricated from austenitic stainless steel 316L. …”

The mechanical coupling effect of laser shock and shot peening in Ti–6Al–4V dovetail joint: Residual stress, microstructure and fretting fatigue behavior
Published 2025-07-01“…Fretting fatigue tests reveal load dependent improvements: at higher loads (10 kN, 12 kN), LSP + SP yields the greatest life extension (7.08 and 4.57 times), while at lower loads (8 kN), SP offers the highest enhancement (8.71 times). Microstructural analysis indicates that LSP + SP transforms multi-crack initiation into single-source fracture and deepens crack origins from 70 μm to 663 μm, consistent with the refinement zone. …”

Effects of Cu and Mg alloying and low-temperature aging on microstructure characteristics and mechanical properties of heat treatment-free cast Al–Si–Cu–Mg alloys
Published 2025-05-01“…The results indicate that the as-cast Al–Si–Cu–Mg alloys exhibit multiple intermetallic phases, with their formation kinetics strongly dependent on both Cu/Mg ratios and elemental concentrations. Meanwhile, microstructural observations of T5-age alloys showed that different casting processes affect the morphology and distribution of the nano-precipitates, consequently governing the strength and plasticity of the alloys.Specifically, the Al–10Si–1Cu-0.6 Mg alloy (Cu/Mg = 1.7) demonstrated an optimal combination of strength and ductility, attributed to the refined size and content of its precipitates.…”

Effects of Different Y2O3 Contents on the Microstructure of Ni-Based WC Ceramic Composite Coating by Laser Cladding
Published 2025-05-01“…To study the effect of different rare earth Y2O3 contents on the microstructure of laser-cladded Ni-based WC ceramic composite coatings, the Ni-based WC ceramic composite coatings were melted on the surface of 9SiCr using 900W YAG solid laser. The effects of Y2O3 on the structure of the composite coatings were systematically investigated by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD).Results showed that the addition of Y2O3 could cause alterations in the relative phase composition ratios within the coating, and Y elements were mainly concentrated at the grain boundary edges.Adding a suitable amount of Y2O3 effectively reduced the coating defects during the cladding process, improved coating densification, promoted more homogeneous microstructural distribution, and significantly refined grain size. When the amount of Y2O3 was 1.5%, the microstructure uniformity of the as-prepared coating was the highest.…”
