Effects of supercritical CO2, water, and supercritical CO2-based water on the mechanical properties and fracturability of shale
Published 2025-05-01“…The key findings are as follows: (1) Uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of shale decreased by 10.72%, 11.95%, and 23.67% at 15 MPa, and by 42.40%, 46.84%, and 51.65% at 45 MPa after immersion in ScCO2, DW, and ScCO2+DW, respectively, with the most pronounced effect observed in ScCO2+DW; (2) Microstructural analysis revealed that while ScCO2 and DW do not significantly alter the microstructure, immersion in ScCO2+DW results in a more complex surface morphology; (3) Acoustic emission (AE) analysis indicates a reduction in stress for crack damage, with a decreased fractal dimension of AE signals in different fluids. …”

Associations between arterial stiffening and brain structure, perfusion, and cognition in the Whitehall II Imaging Sub-study: A retrospective cohort study.
Published 2020-12-01“…The mean (SD) age was 63.9 (5.2) years at the baseline Phase 9 examination, 68.0 (5.2) at Phase 11, and 69.8 (5.2) at the Imaging Phase. Voxel-based analysis revealed that faster rates of aortic stiffening in mid-to-late life were associated with poor WM microstructure, viz. lower FA, higher mean, and radial diffusivity (RD) in 23.9%, 11.8%, and 22.2% of WM tracts, respectively, including the corpus callosum, corona radiata, superior longitudinal fasciculus, and corticospinal tracts. …”

Surface Transformation of Ultrahigh-Temperature ZrB2–HfB2–SiC–CCNT Ceramics Under Exposure to Subsonic N2-CH4 Plasma Flow...
Published 2025-06-01“…XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and SEM-EDX analysis show that the presence of C2 in the N2-CH4 plasma flow leads to surface carbonization (formation of a graphite- and diamond-like coating with a high proportion of amorphous carbon), resulting in significant changes in the microstructure and emissivity, potentially affecting the catalytic properties of the surface.…”

Study on Mechanical and Microscopic Properties of Fly Ash Cement-Based Materials in High Geothermal Environment
Published 2022-01-01“…Meanwhile, the differential thermal analysis and the microstructure analysis show that a hot and humid environment enhances the pozzolanic activity of fly ash and an appropriate ratio of fly ash could improve the microstructure of cement slurry, but when fly ash covers more than 30% of the mix of cement-based materials, the quantity of the alkaline exciting agent, calcium hydroxide, is not enough to meet the needs of the active effect of fly ash and the hydration degree of fly ash becomes extremely low. …”

Leveling up: along-level diffusion tensor imaging in the spinal cord of multiple sclerosis patients
Published 2025-08-01“…In the brain, white matter (WM) tractography enables anatomically specific analysis of microstructural changes. However, in the spinal cord (SC), anatomical localization is inherently defined by cervical levels, offering an alternative framework for regional analysis.MethodsThis study employed an along-level approach to assess both microstructural (e.g., fractional anisotropy) and macrostructural (e.g., cross-sectional area) features of the SC in persons with relapsing-remitting MS (pwRRMS) relative to healthy controls (HCs).ResultsCompared to conventional whole-cord averaging, along-level analyses provided enhanced sensitivity to group differences. …”
