Source localization based on time delay estimation in complex environment by Da-wei ZHANG, Chang-chun BAO, Bing-yin XIA

    Published 2014-01-01
“…In order to improve the performance of source localization in noisy and reverberant environments,a novel time delay estimation (TDE) method was proposed. This method is called acoustical transfer function ratio based on statistical model (ATFR-SM).In the proposed algorithm, the noise reduction method based on the statistical model was adopted to reduce the effect of noise on acoustical transfer Function (ATF).In the ATF method, the power spectral density (PSD) was smoothed and whitened to reduce the effect of reverberations.voice activity detection (VAD) was used to distinguish the speech period from the noise period, and the TDE was performed in the speech period to improve the estimation accuracy. Moreover, the proposed TDE method and the linear closed-form method for source localization were combined to constitute a source localization system. The results of performance evaluation show that,in both the noisy and reverberant conditions, the lower percentage of abnormal points (PAP) and lower root mean square error (RMSE) can be achieved by the proposed TDE method than those of the reference methods.Meanwhile, the source localization has higher accuracy than the reference methods.…”

A Generalized Method for Sentiment Analysis across Different Sources by Abubakar M. Ashir

    Published 2021-01-01
“…In this study, a rule and lexical-based procedure is proposed together with unsupervised machine learning to implement sentiment analysis with an improved generalization ability across different sources. To deal with sources devoid of syntactic and grammatical structure, the approach incorporates a ruled-based technique for emoticon detection, word contraction expansion, noise removal, and lexicon-based text preprocessing using lexical features such as part of speech (POS), stop words, and lemmatization for local context analysis. …”

    Published 2025-04-01
“…The PIV, occupancy, and detectability obtained in the present study were similar to those reported in natural water bodies in the Maya Forest, which supports the idea that the water troughs could temporarily supply maintenance functions for tapirs during the dry season or in periods when water is scarce in the landscape, being this the only source of water available to satisfy their requirements for this resource in the CBR. …”

Near-source wastewater surveillance of SARS-CoV-2, norovirus, influenza virus and RSV across five different sites in the UK. by Jay C Bullen, Mina Mohaghegh, Fatima Tahir, Charlotte Hammer, Jacob Sims, Frederico Myers, Lucas Eisinger, Ali Reza Kasmati, Claire F Trant

    Published 2025-01-01
“…The key findings are (1) near-source wastewater detections were linked to local events (staff sickness, enhanced cleaning, changing populations); (2) wastewater detections decreased in the order norovirus GII > norovirus GI > SARS-CoV-2 ≈ influenza A ≈ RSV A > influenza B ≈ RSV B; (3) correlation between near-source wastewater data and national surveillance data increases as a function of catchment size and viral prevalence (examples include the SARS-CoV-2 BA.4/BA.5 variant peak at a museum and wastewater tracking the winter norovirus season); (4) strong weekday periodicity in near-source wastewater SARS-CoV-2 detections, with the correlation against COVID-19 case numbers increasing when modelling variable lag times between faecal shedding onset and clinical diagnosis (R2 = 0.45 increases to 0.84-0.86); (5) a log-linear relationship between the frequency of wastewater SARS-CoV-2 detection and log(catchment size⋅viral prevalence) (R2 = 0.6914-0.9066). …”
