Isotopic niche plasticity of American alligators within the southern Everglades.
Published 2025-01-01“…Alligators within the estuary had a larger niche driven by a wider range in stable carbon isotope ratios than those sampled in freshwater habitats. Spatially, model predictability was higher at the smaller scale, reflecting the variability in basal sources and biochemistry among capture sites. …”

Behavioral Classification of Sequential Neural Activity Using Time Varying Recurrent Neural Networks
Published 2025-01-01“…To enable the network to utilize all temporal features of the neural input data, and to enhance the memory of recurrent neural networks, this paper proposes a novel approach: recurrent neural networks with time-varying weights, here termed Time-varying recurrent neural networks. These models are able to not only predict the class of the time-sequence correctly, but also lead to accurate classification earlier in the sequence than standard recurrent neural networks, while also stabilizing gradient dynamics. …”

Controls of Slab Subduction and Tearing on the Magmatism of Wrangell Volcanoes in South‐Central Alaska
Published 2025-04-01“…Our model reveals three key features, including (a) the presence of the subducting Yakutat slab with apparent velocity reductions near the trench and within its flat segment, (b) two slab segments beneath the Wrangell volcanic field, differing in steepness, depth, and seismic velocity, and aligning spatially with the northwestern and southeastern volcano clusters, and (c) the existence of slab windows between the Yakutat and Wrangell slabs and between the northwestern and southeastern portions of the Wrangell slab. …”

The influence of farm connectedness on foot‐and‐mouth disease outbreaks in livestock
Published 2024-12-01“…The objectives were to (1) determine the impact of connectivity of the initially infected farm on the size of FMD outbreaks in four counties of differing connectivity; (2) compare FMD spread in counties that have different mean farm connectivity levels over all farms in the county; and (3) determine how connectivity relationships affect an example control measure. We used a spatially explicit stochastic model to simulate FMD outbreaks on livestock farm operations in four UK counties. …”

Fourier Analysis of CMFD Method in Cylindrical Geometry
Published 2025-06-01“…Building on the aforementioned Fourier analysis, this study develops a cylindrical pebble-bed reactor model for steady-state 3D neutron simulation. The results demonstrate that the acceleration efficiency of the CMFD method aligns with the phenomena predicted by the Fourier analysis in cylindrical geometry. …”

Estimating Near-Surface Air Temperature From Satellite-Derived Land Surface Temperature Using Temporal Deep Learning: A Comparative Analysis
Published 2025-01-01“…Seasonal and diurnal evaluations show higher errors in spring and midday hours, likely due to rapid vegetation changes and stronger physical and dynamical processes that make T2M less predictable. Spatially, stations with denser vegetation exhibit elevated errors, suggesting that transpiration and canopy effects complicate the LST-T2M linkage. …”

Oceanographic and trophodynamic underpinnings of anchovy success in the northern California Current
Published 2025-05-01“…This suggests that the upwelling front may act as a shoreward boundary for anchovy larvae, affecting their access to the highly nutritious prey base typical of the Oregon continental shelf waters in summer.DiscussionVariation in larval anchovy growth with local oceanographic conditions and fine-scale distributions of prey and predators provides a mechanistic hypothesis of food-web dynamics which will enhance our ability to predict the response of forage fishes to ecosystem variability.…”

Analysis on Spatio-Temporal Variability of Fractional Vegetation Cover and Influencing Factors from 2000 to 2020 in Southwestern China
Published 2024-02-01“…The southwestern China is a vital ecological safeguard and is characterized by ecological fragility and climate sensitivity.Based on the MOD13A3 NDVI dataset, this study used a pixel dichotomy model to calculate the average Fractional Vegetation Cover (FVC) from 2000 to 2020 annually, during growing seasons, and in each of the four seasons for the whole southwestern China and its provinces, a spatio-temporal variation analysis was then performed on FVC across different time scales. The study also discussed the primary factors influencing FVC changes over the past 21 years, using ERA5 temperature data, GPCP satellite precipitation data, and DEM data. Finally, the Hurst Index was used to predict future FVC trends.(1) The results indicate that from 2000 to 2020, the overall FVC in the eastern part of the southwestern China showed an increasing trend, particularly in Chongqing and Guizhou, while Tibet showed a general decline.(2) Spatially, the FVC generally showed a "higher in the east and lower in the west" trend, with areas where FVC increased accounting for 43.9% of the total area, and areas of decrease accounting for 53.5%.(3) Precipitation promotes FVC, while temperature has varied effects in different regions.(4) Human activity significantly impacts FVC, with promotion, suppression, and no effect zones accounting for 40.4%, 47.6%, and 12.0% of the grid percentage, respectively.(5) Elevation and FVC over different time scales are significantly correlated but both exhibit a pronounced declining trend.FVC increases significantly with slope, but decreases when the slope is greater than 25°.The effect of aspect on FVC in the southwestern China is less significant than that of slope, elevation, and climatic factors.(6) In the future, the FVC in Tibet and the eastern parts of Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou in the southwestern China will increase, while most areas of western Sichuan and the Hengduan Mountains will exhibit a decreasing trend. The results can provide data support and scientific guidance for the formulation of ecological protection plans in the southwestern China.…”
