Preliminary Evaluation of a Numerical System of Prediction for Surface Solar Irradiance and Cloudiness in a Site with a Subtropical Humid Climate
Published 2024-12-01“…During austral summer, multiplying the relative humidity of initial and boundary conditions by a fixed factor improves the forecasts of global horizontal irradiance and cloud incidence for the central hours of the day and the afternoon. During austral winter, an empirical correction of the clarity index obtained from the simulation’s outputs also shows the potential to improve the forecasts’ biases. …”

Impact of Climate Change and Human Activities on Runoff and Drought in Manas River Basin
Published 2022-01-01“…On the basis of the monthly precipitation and runoff data of Manas River Basin from 1956 to 2020,the Mann-Kendall nonparametric test method, double cumulative curve method, and standardized runoff index (SRI) are adopted to reveal the interannual variation trend of watershed runoff and quantitatively describe the contribution proportion of climate change and human activities to watershed runoff change. In addition, the characteristics of seasonal drought change are explored under the influence of climate change and human activities. The results indicate that:① the annual runoff of Manas River Basin shows an upward trend, and a significant mutation occurred in 1995;② Climate change is the main factor leading to the increase in runoff in Manas River Basin, and the contribution rates of climate change and human activities to the increase in runoff are 56.73% and 43.37%,respectively;③ On a seasonal scale,in contrast with the impact of climate change, human activities reduce the frequency of drought events in the basin and improve the drought situation in winter. In the meanwhile, however, farmland irrigation in spring consumes enormous water resources, which results in the trend of drought in the basin in spring.…”

A Unifying Theory for SIDS
Published 2009-01-01“… (1) A characteristic male fraction of approximately 0.61 for all postneonatal SIDS in the US; (2) a distinctive lognormal-type age distribution arising from zero at birth, mode at about 2 months, median at about 3 months, and an exponential decrease with age going towards zero beyond one year; (3) a marked decrease in SIDS rate from the discovery that changing the recommended infant sleep position from prone to supine reduced the rate of SIDS, but it did not change the form of the age or gender distributions cited above; (4) a seasonal variation, maximal in winter and minimal in summer, that implies subsets of SIDS displaying evidence of seasonal low-grade respiratory infection and nonseasonal neurological prematurity. …”

Analysis of Spatiotemporal Dynamic Characteristics on Potential Evapotranspiration and Water Budget in Hebei Province
Published 2022-01-01“…The spatiotemporal dynamic characteristics of regional potential evapotranspiration can lay a theoretical foundation for regional rational crop planting and scientific agricultural irrigation. In the context of global warming and increasing evapotranspiration rates, the Penman-Monteith equation is used to calculate the potential evapotranspiration (ET0) and water budget (K) of Hebei Province from1967 to 2019 according to the actual meteorological observation data of twelve weather stations in Hebei Province, and the characteristics of their spatiotemporal dynamic variations are analyzed. On this basis, the analysis method of the Morlet wavelet function is introduced for the cycle analysis of ET0 and K in 53 years. The results show that ET0 has obvious zonal characteristics, and it is generally on the rise while K is on the decline during this period. Moreover, the evapotranspiration variations vary with seasons:ET0 shows an upward trend in spring, autumn, and winter but a downward trend in summer. The cycle of K has the most significant oscillation at 35 a,and the scope of the oscillation is prominent in summer and autumn. Therefore, obvious changes in seasonal characteristics of Hebei Province have a great impact on K.The results can provide a reliable theoretical basis for agricultural water-saving and planting structure adjustment in Hebei Province.…”
