Sewage pollution from onsite sewage disposal systems and an offshore wastewater treatment plant outfall in coastal waters of Keaukaha, Hawaiʻi Island by Shayla M.P. Waiki, Steven L. Colbert, Tracy N. Wiegner, Noelani Puniwai, Joseph W.P. Nakoa, III, Nicolas M. Storie, Craig E. Nelson, Ashlynn N. Overly, Karla J. McDermid, Devon K. Aguiar

    Published 2025-02-01
“…Study focus: Onsite sewage disposal systems (OSDS) and the Hilo Wastewater Treatment Plant (HWTP) outfall are potentially impacting Keaukaha’s coastal waters. We used dye tracer tests, water quality, δ15N macroalgal, δ15N- and δ18O-NO3- measurements along with stable isotope mixing models to assess connectivity of OSDS to coastal waters and characterize water quality at coastal OSDS-impacted springs, coral reefs, and from the HWTP. …”

Regression Analysis of Initial Geostress Field for Deep-Buried Tunnel of Water Resources Allocation Project in Guangdong Province around the Beibu Gulf by DAI Zhikun, ZHENG Xiao, YOU Siqin

    Published 2023-01-01
“…Geostress has important influence on the surrounding rock of the deep-buried tunnel during its construction.Accurately identifying the initial geostress of the engineering area can effectively guide the design and construction of the tunnel. In order to study the distribution of initial geostress in the deeply buried tunnel area of water resources allocation project in Guangdong Province around the Beibu Gulf,a three-dimensional geological model was established via the finite difference software FLAC3D,by reference to the geoengineering conditions and measured data on geostress, with the relevant analysis and calculation conducted under the separate effects of each factor concerning the initial geostress field. And the a multiple regression model between measured and calculated values was established to work out the optimal regression coefficient through multiple regression analysis, thus obtaining the regression equation of geostress.By comparing the regression values and the measured values,it is found that the magnitude and direction of the two values are close to each other, indicating that the initial geostress field established by regression analysis is reasonable and can provide effective basic data for subsequent evaluation of the stability of surrounding rock of the tunnel, support design and long-term safety evaluation and prediction.…”
