Global Ionospheric Scintillation Estimation Based on Phase Screen Modeling From One‐Dimensional Satellite Data by Yuhao Zheng, Chao Xiong, Luca Spogli, Rayan Iman, Lucilla Alfonsi

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Based on the single phase screen assumption, this study uses the one‐dimensional (1D) in‐situ plasma density data of ESA's Swarm constellation data to develop a three‐dimensional (3D) power spectrum of electron density perturbation and construct a model to estimate scintillations caused by small‐scale ionospheric plasma density irregularities. By deriving the turbulence strength (Cs) and calculating the amplitude scintillation index S4, the global distribution of ionospheric scintillation is derived. …”

Influence of Surface Roughness on a Highly Loaded Axial Compressor Stage Performance at Low Reynolds Number by Hongzhi Cheng, Mingyang Wang, Chuangxin Zhou, Shengfeng Zhao, Xingen Lu, Junqiang Zhu

    Published 2021-01-01
“…The results showed that at low Re, surface roughness mainly improved the stage performance by reducing the length and width of the LSB as well as the rotor tip vorticity, delaying the occurrence of three-dimensional flow separation and increasing the turbulence level near the wall. However, it also aggravated the incoordination between the subsequent stages to a certain extent, which limited further improvement of the overall aerodynamic performance. …”

Vertical Shear Instability in Thermally Stratified Protoplanetary Disks. I. A Linear Stability Analysis by Han-Gyeol Yun, Woong-Tae Kim, Jaehan Bae, Cheongho Han

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Vertical shear instability (VSI), driven by a vertical gradient of rotational angular velocity, is a promising source of turbulence in protoplanetary disks. We examine the semiglobal stability of thermally stratified disks and find that the VSI consists of surface and body modes: surface modes are confined to regions of strong shear, while body modes extend perturbations across the disk, consistent with the previous findings. …”

Our findings indicate that (1) the TIL-HE strategy demonstrates superior cooling performance, resulting in significantly lower airflow temperatures and markedly higher VVD; (2) higher water velocity and more heat exchangers contribute to lower airflow temperature and prolonged VVD; (3) positioning the heat exchangers within the surrounding rock rather than inside the insulation layer leads to even lower airflow temperature and longer VVD. …”
