Proust’s Ruskin: From Illustration to Illumination
Published 2020-06-01“…Ruskin’s concept of ‘reciprocal interference’ is adopted to designate intermediality and to suggest that Proust not only borrowed from Ruskin’s text but enriched it through his translation and annotation of it. Although his translations did not reproduce the original illustrations, his two-part article on Ruskin in the Gazette des Beaux Arts (April and August 1900) included reproductions of Giotto’s ‘Charity’ and Ruskin’s drawing of the sculpted figure from the façade of Rouen cathedral. …”

Benjamin’s Dialectical Image and the Textuality of the Built Landscape
Published 2016-04-01“…The textuality of the dialectical image will be elaborated on by discussing it in relation to the practice of translation. This discussion will be further contextualised by discussing a cadre of German/Austrian planners and architects who attempted to translate architectural idioms between cultural identities in Kemalist Era Turkey. …”

First-order analysis of slip flow for micro and nanoscale applications
Published 2025-01-01“…Applications include predicting: the drag on translating spheres with varying slip length; the efficiency of a micro journal bearing; the speed of a self-propelled particle (a ‘squirmer’); and the pressure drop required to drive flow through long, straight micro/nano channels. …”

Mechanisms of miRNA-Mediated Gene Regulation from Common Downregulation to mRNA-Specific Upregulation
Published 2014-01-01“…It was primarily acknowledged that miRNAs result in gene expression repression at both the level of mRNA stability by conducting mRNA degradation and the level of translation (at initiation and after initiation) by inhibiting protein translation or degrading the polypeptides through binding complementarily to 3′UTR of the target mRNAs. …”

On the Development of Speech Resources for the Mixtec Language
Published 2013-01-01“…This paper presents the development of the following resources for the Mixtec language: (1) a speech database of traditional narratives of the Mixtec culture spoken by a native speaker (labelled at the phonetic and orthographic levels by means of spectral analysis) and (2) a native speaker-adaptive automatic speech recognition (ASR) system (trained with the speech database) integrated with a Mixtec-to-Spanish/Spanish-to-Mixtec text translator. The speech database, although small and limited to a single variant, was reliable enough to build the multiuser speech application which presented a mean recognition/translation performance up to 94.36% in experiments with non-native speakers (the target users).…”
