The return of the property question in the development of Alpine tourist resorts in Switzerland by Christophe Clivaz, Stéphane Nahrath

    Published 2010-09-01
“…In these very favourable conditions for landowners, who also see land ownership strengthened by its introduction in the Federal Constitution at the end of the 1960s, the "growth coalitions" structuring the local power in many tourist towns usually planned oversized building areas (and often badly located) which have facilitated the development of second homes industry to the detriment of productive estate home industry. …”

Spectrum sensing method based on residual dense network by Jianxin GAI, Xianfeng XUE, Ruixiang NAN, Jingyi WU

    Published 2021-12-01
“…Aiming at the problem that the traditional spectrum sensing method based on convolutional neural network(CNN) did not make full use of image feature and the ability of extracting the image feature was limited by the shallow network structure, a spectrum sensing method based on the residual dense network (ResDenNet) was proposed.By adding dense connections in the traditional neural network, the information reuse of the image feature was achieved.Meanwhile, shortcut connections were employed at both ends of the dense unit to implement deeper network training. The spectrum sensing problem was transformed into the image binary classification problem.Firstly, the received signals were integrated into a matrix, which was normalized and transformed by gray level. The obtained gray level images were used as the input of the network. Then, the network was trained through dense learning and residual learning. Finally, the online data was input into the ResDenNet and spectrum sensing was implemented based on image classification. The numerical experiments show that the proposed method is superior to the traditional ones in terms of performance. When the SNR is as low as -19 dB, the detection probability of the proposed method is still high up to 0.96 with a low false alarm probability of 0.1, while a better generalization ability is displayed.…”

Elicitation and experimentation: implications for English sociolinguistics by Cameron Morin, Carmelo Alessandro Basile

    Published 2022-11-01
“…We argue that understanding elicitation as a concept distinct from the dichotomy of observation versus experimentation enables us to avoid the pitfall of equating structured data elicitation with experimentation. We also argue that research in these strands of language variation should continue to embrace the ultimately observational nature of its results and use experimental terminology with great care, as part of a scientific approach to uncovering relationships that matter in the real world such as variation in the social practice of language, rather than describing causal links directly. …”

Liposomal Antioxidants for Protection against Oxidant-Induced Damage by Zacharias E. Suntres

    Published 2011-01-01
“…Overproduction and/or insufficient removal of ROS result in significant damage to cell structure and functions. In vitro studies showed that antioxidants, when applied directly and at relatively high concentrations to cellular systems, are effective in conferring protection against the damaging actions of ROS, but results from animal and human studies showed that several antioxidants provide only modest benefit and even possible harm. …”

Recovery mechanism of large-scale damaged edge computing network in industrial Internet of things by Hui TIAN, Hao WU, Yang TIAN, Jianyang REN, Yajuan CUI, Wenbao AI, Jianhua YUAN

    Published 2021-04-01
“…Given the limited resources at early stages for recovery, a failure recovery mechanism of the edge computing network considering both computational demands and repair costs was proposed, which intends to tackle the problem of the high probability of large-scale cascading failure caused by the interdependence between the edge computing network and other subnetworks in industrial Internet of things (IIoT).Considering the network structure (topology and link capacity) and network dynamics (computational demands), a joint link recovery selection and computation migration optimization problem was formulated under the conservation of node computing requirements.By leveraging the Benders decomposition algorithm, the NP-hard problem was transformed into a main problem and a sub-problem, which were interdependent and could be solved in polynomial time through the approximation of cutting planes.A local branching method was further introduced to guarantee the non-increasing nature of the Benders upper bound, thus accelerating the convergence of Benders decomposition.Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional topology-based recovery algorithm in system utility, and can perform well in multiple scenarios.…”

Spatial and Temporal Variation Characteristics of Drought in Guizhou Province Based on VCI and Division of Arid Regions by DAI Renli, ZHONG Jiusheng

    Published 2021-01-01
“…Due to its unique dual hydrological structure of surface water and groundwater and typical karst low mountain and hilly landform area, the agricultural ecological environment of Guizhou Province is extremely fragile, and it is prone to agricultural disasters caused by meteorological factors, leading to reduced agricultural production. This paper calculates the VCI of Guizhou Province from 2001 to 2018 by remote sensing technology, explores the agricultural drought situation in Guizhou Province, divides the spatial distribution of seasonal arid regions in Guizhou Province with ArcGIS spatial overlay analysis, and analyzes the VCI trend characteristics of Guizhou Province through the unary linear trend method. The results show that:①The seasonal and inter-annual VCI in Guizhou Province generally show a downward trend, most obviously in karst areas, followed by non-karst areas;②Guizhou Province's seasonal droughts are mainly spring and winter droughts, and dry karst areas is a drought-prone area;③The drought time characteristics of Guizhou Province are mainly seasonal continuous drought and three-season continuous drought.…”
