Merit-based recruitment in the South African Public Service: Challenges and opportunities
Published 2024-12-01“…While the practical application of merit-based recruitment presents opportunities, it still encounters considerable obstacles, such as political interference, and fragile institutional structures. This paper explored both the challenges and opportunities of merit-based recruitment in the South African public service through an analysis of government reports, academic literature, and policy reviews. …”

Dynamic Response of a Vehicle-Bridge Expansion Joint Coupled System
Published 2022-01-01“…The results show that the maximum dynamic tire load of the vehicle occurs at the end of the bridge deck behind the MBEJ, so local structure reinforcement needs to be considered. The interaction between the front and rear wheels of the 2-axle vehicle can be ignored. …”

Pre-reinforcement Performance of Yielding Anti-slide Piles for Bedding Rock Slope
Published 2023-01-01“…Yielding anti-slide pile is a pre-reinforcement structure developed for bedding rock slopes. To explore its pre-reinforcement performance, firstly, its pre-reinforcement mechanism is analyzed.Secondly,by employing deformation and stress as reference indicators, this paper adopts a physical model test combined with numerical simulations to compare yielding anti-slide piles with ordinary anti-slide piles. Finally, the effects of yielding layer thickness, anchoring section length, and yielding layer elastic modulus on the reinforcement effect of yielding anti-slide piles are studied. The results are as follows.① The pre-reinforcement and yielding anti-slide piles for slopes can induce weak deformation of potential sliding mass through the yielding layer setting, exert the beneficial effect of shear strength between layers of rock strata, and improve the displacement and stress state of the pile bodies.② The displacement of rock stratum sliding during the support of yielding anti-slide piles is significantly increased, and the lateral pressure acting on the pile bodies is smaller than that of ordinary anti-slide piles to better improve the anti-slide effect of anti-slide piles.③ The pre-reinforcement effect of the yielding anti-slide piles tends to gradually improve with the rising length of the anchor section, while the yielding layer thickness and the elastic modulus of the yielding layer increase with a trend of first becoming better and then becoming worse.…”

CHARACTERISTIC STUDY FOR THE HETEROGENEOUS ROLLING BEARING MATCH WAY
Published 2015-01-01“…When angular contact ball bearings match together, due to high demand of manufacturing and installation precision, only increasing the number of angular contact ball bearings to increase the radial bearing capacity has great limitations. Therefore,it was considered that using heterogeneous rolling bearing match to increase the radial bearing capacity of bearing match has obvious advantages.Structure characteristics and mechanical properties of the existing angular contact ball bearing match way has been analyzed and compared, and then the applicability of them has been explained. For the existence of the high accuracy requirement and the low radial load capacity,a way of heterogeneous rolling bearing match way was put forward. Its characteristic is to use deep groove ball bearings or cylindrical roller bearing to bear radial load bearing, and angular contact ball bearing to bear axial load. Then, the formula was derived for calculating the life of a heterogeneous rolling bearing match way.At the same time the life calculation formula of"QBC"angular contact ball bearing was deduced.Comparison of the two above show that heterogeneous rolling bearing match way obviously improves the radial bearing capacity, obviously prolong service life, and the demand of bearing manufacturing and installation accuracy is low.The results have been applied to an import petrochemical plant methylamine pumps. After calculation, heterogeneous rolling bearing match way increases by 52.5%.…”
