On the stability of one characterization of the stable distributions by Olga Yanushkevichiene, Romanas Yanushkevichius

    Published 2001-12-01
“…The idea of using linear combinations of random variables to characterize the stable distributions has been extended by P. Levy. We investigate the stability of this characterization. …”

    Published 2017-01-01
“…Procedure incorporates application of the time-frequency decomposition, α-stable distribution based signal modeling, and stability parameter in the time domain as a stoppage criterion for iterative part of the procedure. …”

Alpha Stable Distribution Based Morphological Filter for Bearing and Gear Fault Diagnosis in Nuclear Power Plant by Xinghui Zhang, Jianshe Kang, Lei Xiao, Jianmin Zhao

    Published 2015-01-01
“…The length of structuring element (SE) of dilation-erosion gradient filter is optimized by alpha stable distribution. Method experimental verification confirmed that parameter alpha is superior compared to kurtosis since it can reflect the form of entire signal and it cannot be influenced by noise similar to impulse.…”

A Fault Diagnosis Method for Rolling Bearings Based on Feature Fusion of Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis and Alpha Stable Distribution by Qing Xiong, Weihua Zhang, Tianwei Lu, Guiming Mei, Shulin Liang

    Published 2016-01-01
“…Firstly, Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (MFDFA) was used to compute five MFDFA features while five Alpha Stable Distribution (ASD) features were obtained by fitting the distribution to the vibration signals of each status and calculating the Probability Density Function (PDF). …”

Modeling Anomalous Transport of Cosmic Rays in the Heliosphere Using a Fractional Fokker–Planck Equation by José Luis Díaz Palencia

    Published 2025-01-01
“…We derive analytical solutions using the Adomian Decomposition Method and express them in terms of Mittag-Leffler functions and Lévy stable distributions. The model parameters, including the fractional orders <inline-formula><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><semantics><mi>α</mi></semantics></math></inline-formula> and <inline-formula><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><semantics><mi>μ</mi></semantics></math></inline-formula> and the entropic index <i>q</i>, are estimated by a short comparison between theoretical predictions and observational data from cosmic ray experiments. …”

Lévy walk of pions in heavy-ion collisions by Dániel Kincses, Márton Nagy, Máté Csanád

    Published 2025-02-01
“…Utilising Monte-Carlo simulations of high-energy collisions, we show that the chain of processes ending in a final state pion has a step length distribution leading to Lévy-stable distributions. Subsequently, we show that simulated pion freeze-out distributions indeed exhibit heavy tails and can be described by a three-dimensional elliptically contoured symmetric Lévy-stable distribution.…”

Constant modulus algorithm for blind equalization under impulsive noise environments by GUO Ying1, QIU Tian-shuang1, TANG Hong1, PARK Yong-wan2

    Published 2009-01-01
“…The presence of α stable distributed ambient channel noise in wireless systems can degrade the per-formance of existing constamt modulus(CM) equalizers. The problem of blind equalization in noisy communication channels was investigated by addressing the negative effects of heavy-tailed noise to the original constant modulus algorithm based on a stochastic gradient descent(SGD-CMA).Two modified algorithms were proposed. The first is robust CM algorithm based on SGD(SGD-RCMA) and the second is robust CM based on recursive least square(RLS-RCMA) novel methods are robust under both Gaussian and α stable distributed ambient noise environments. And compared to SGD-RCMA method, the RLS-RCMA method has a significantly faster convergence rate and more powerful ISI impressing ability.…”
