Estimating the Asphalt Binder Film Thickness Using Scanning Electron Microscope and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy by Fazli Karim, Jawad Hussain, Imran Hafeez

    Published 2021-01-01
“…The asphalt binder film thickness around the finest particles of 500 nm (0.5 micron) size in asphalt mastic was detected and measured by image analysis (using scanning electron microscope) and elemental analysis (using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) at magnifying power of ×30,000. The analytical estimation revealed that the asphalt binder film thickness for the aforementioned conditions varies from 9 μm to 13 μm, with a fair relationship to binder content and mixing temperature. …”

Impact of Leather on the Fire Resistance of Leather-Wood Fibreboard: FT-IR Spectroscopy and Pyrolysis-GC-MS Investigation by T. Schnabel, M.-C. Barbu, E. Windeisen-Holzhauser, A. Petutschnigg, G. Tondi

    Published 2019-01-01
“…During burning, an overlay coating-like surface is formed on top of a foamy structure that creates the heat transfer barrier. The FT-IR spectroscopy results of the leather show the rearrangement of the proteins and the formation of an increasing amount of acid groups when the exposure to hot gun at over 530°C was prolonged. …”
