Low Profile Planar Inverted-L Antenna (PILA) for UHF RFID Tag on Signal Absorption and Reflection Surfaces by Minh-Tan Nguyen, Yi-Fang Lin, Chien-Hung Chen, Hoang-Son Luong, Hua-Ming Chen

    Published 2025-01-01
    “…The tag antenna was fabricated on a single FR4 substrate, measuring <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">$30\times 20\times 3.2$ </tex-math></inline-formula> mm3 (<inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">$0.10~\lambda _{0} \times 0.08~\lambda _{0} \times 0.01~\lambda _{0}$ </tex-math></inline-formula>), and successfully tested on various conductive materials. In a free-space medium, a reader antenna with an Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) of 4.0 W achieved maximum reading distances of 7.8 m, 6.1 m, and 5.3 m as the tag antenna was positioned on a metal plane, a water-filled container, and on a human body, respectively.…”

Quantitative Evaluation of Top Coal Caving Methods at the Working Face of Extra-Thick Coal Seams Based on the Random Medium Theory by Shi Jiulin, Zhang Quntao, Gao Xiaojin, Xue Jisheng

    Published 2021-01-01
“…The results show the following: (1) The coal-rock settlement and the caving body demonstrate clear axial symmetrical features along the working face; the size of the caving body increases as the caving height grows and its shape turns progressively from semicircular to semielliptical with a lower foot of the coal-rock settlement. (2) The caving interval is derived using the sum of the radii of the coal-rock settlement curves formed by the two largest caving bodies. (3) The symmetrical caving approach provides a symmetrical space for the subsequent movement of the broken top coal, which enables a uniform development of the caving body. (4) Compared with the traditional sequential coal caving method with the same number of supports, the interval symmetrical caving method results in a 21.7% of coal production increase, 17% caving rate promotion, and a shortened caving time by 23.4%. (5) The interval symmetrical caving method is found to improve the controllability of the caving process at the fully mechanized top coal caving working face. …”

Do The Facts of Voting Rights Support Chief Justice Roberts’s Opinion in Shelby County? by Morgan Kousser

    Published 2016-01-01
“…Holder that the problems of 2013 were much less grave than the “pervasive . . . flagrant . . . widespread . . . rampant” voting discrimination of 1965 and that the coverage formula was outmoded because “today’s statistics tell an entirely different story.”1Neither the Chief Justice nor any scholars or civil rights proponents or opponents have systematically examined the evidence on the entire pattern of proven voting rights violations over time and space. Was the Chief Justice correct in asserting that such violations no longer tracked the coverage scheme in Section 4 of the Act -- that, as he put it, the relationship of the formula to problems of vote dilution was purely “fortuitous?” …”
