Energy-aware scheduling policy for data-intensive workflow
Published 2015-01-01“…With the increasing scale of data centers, high energy consumption has become a critical issue in high-performance computing area.To address the issue of energy consumption optimization for data-intensive workflow applications,a set of virtual data-accessing nodes are introduced into the original workflow for quantitatively evaluating the data-accessing energy consumption,by which a novel heuristic policy called minimal energy consumption path is designed.Based on the proposed heuristic policy, two energy-aware scheduling algorithms are implemented, which are deprived from the classical HEFT and CPOP scheduling algorithms.Extensive experiments are conducted to investigate the performance of the proposed algorithms, and the results show that they can significantly reduce the data-accessing energy consumption. Also, the proposed algorithms show better adaptive when the system is in presence of large-scale workflows.…”

TDMA-based user scheduling policies for federated learning
Published 2021-06-01“…To improve the communication efficiency in FL (federated learning), for the scenario with heterogeneous edge user's computing capacity and channel state, a class of time division multiple access (TDMA) based user scheduling policies were proposed for FL.The proposed policies aim to minimize the system delay in each round of model training subject to a given sample size constraint required for computing in each round. In addition, the convergence rate of the proposed scheduling algorithms was analyzed from a theoretical perspective to study the tradeoff between the convergence performance and the total system delay. The selection of the optimal batch size was further analyzed.Simulation results show that the convergence rate of the proposed algorithm is at least 30% higher than all the considered benchmarks.…”

CT-TDMA:efficient TDMA protocol for underwater sensor networks
Published 2012-02-01“…Aimed at underwater acoustic sensor networks(UWSN),a novel sender based conflict model with the schemes of allocating continuous time was presented, including local conflict graph(LCG)and a distribute algorithm to generate LCG.Moreover,CT-TDMA,an efficient TDMA protocol based on the conflict model was also proposed, which used heuristic priority rules to allocate transmitting moments for all nodes.CT-TDMA exploits the diversity of propagation delay of different links in UWSN to decrease the idle time between packets at the same receiving node, which helps in improving the throughput. And a heuristic schedule algorithm is applied to shorten the process of allocating continuous time for each node.Simulation results show that, compared with traditional TDMA protocols such as ST-MAC,network throughput of CT-TDMA has increased 20% and end to end delay has decreased 18%;compared to the theoretically optimal scheme with global knowledge,CT-TDMA has achieved 80% network throughput and the end to end delay is only 12% longer.…”
