Comparative Study on Water Resources Carrying Capacity of Key River Basins in the Pearl River Region by JIN Zhanwei, SUN Bo, LIU Hechang

    Published 2023-01-01
“…In this paper, the evaluation index system of water resources carrying capacity was built in terms of three dimensions of water resources carrying subject, carrying object, and approach.TOPSIS model, coupling coordination model, and production function model were used to analyze the water resources carrying status of 27 key basins in the Pearl River region. The results show that the water resources carrying capacity of Nandu River,Guijiang River,Wanquan River, and Beijiang River basins rank first, and that of Jiuzhou River,Huangni River,Qinjiang River, and Jianjiang River Basins rank second. The internal elements of the water resources system in the key basins are mainly characterized by near imbalance, with 17 near imbalance basins, nine mild imbalance basins, and one moderate imbalance basins. The water resource carrying efficiency curve of key basins shows three types:low, medium, and high. There are four low-efficiency basins,12 medium-efficiency Basins, and 11 high-efficiency basins.A comprehensive comparison of water resources carrying capacity ranking, coupling coordination degree, and carrying efficiency shows that the water resource carrying capacity of the Jiuzhou River,Jianjiang River, and Qinjiang River Basins is poor, while that of the Beijiang River,Xijiang River,Wushui River,Hejiang River, and Tingjiang River Basins is relatively good. The results in this paper can be an important reference for the planning, development, utilization, protection, and management of water resources in the Pearl River region and key river basins.…”

Identification and Situation Analysis of Historical Drought-Flood Abrupt Alternation in Jiulong River Basin in Fujian by SUN Haoyan, WANG Lihui, TANG Ping, XU Pu, JIANG Yong, YU Zhiming, ZOU Qingshui

    Published 2023-01-01
“…To improve the scheduling plan for extreme hydrological events and drought-flood abrupt alternation in Jiulong River Basin, according to the historical observation data of the basin, this paper adopts the short-cycle drought-flood abrupt alternation index (SDFAI) and standard deviation method to identify and analyze the historical typical years of drought-flood abrupt alternation in Jiulong River Basin. The results are as follows:① From 1952 to 2021,the typical years of drought-flood abrupt alternation in this basin are evenly distributed with a total of 11 years, and the typical years of drought-flood abrupt alternation in the last ten years are 2016 and 2020;② The probability characteristics of drought-flood abrupt alternation in Jiulong River Basin in the four seasons are shown. In the case of droughts, the alternation probability from droughts to floods is less than that of continuous droughts. In the case of floods, the alternation probability from floods to droughts is greater than that of continuous floods;③ The hydrological situations of 1987,1995,and 2016 in the basin are analyzed, with the three years being the historical typical years of drought-flood abrupt alternation.Meanwhile, rainfalls and evaporation in typical years are compared with those in the whole year to obtain their monthly variation and then provide data support for formulating emergency scheduling schemes of drought-flood abrupt alternation.…”

Simulation of water resources in ungauged region- case study in Nam Ou River Basin, Laos by Wenmei Cai, Li Ren, Li Zhang, Yutong Liu, Wenjiao Yang

    Published 2025-02-01
“…Through parameter transplantation, the calibrated parameters were applied to simulate the spatial distribution and annual allocation process of water resources in the Nam Ou River Basin. The analysis revealed that the spatial distribution of water resources and runoff coefficients closely aligns with the spatial distribution of precipitation, indicating a strong correlation between water resources and precipitation in the basin. …”

Evaluation of four gridded climate products for streamflow and drought simulations in the Kelantan River Basin, Malaysia by Hongrong Du, Mou Leong Tan, Kwok Pan Chun, Fei Zhang

    Published 2025-12-01
“…This study compares the performance of the recently launched NASA POWER and ERA5-Land, with CHIRPS and APHRODITE, in simulating streamflow and drought from 1985 to 2015 in the Kelantan River Basin, Malaysia. When the SWAT+ model was incorporated with the original GCPs, APHRODITE demonstrated the best performance in monthly streamflow simulations, achieving Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE) values from 0.61 to 0.71 and coefficient of determination (R2) values from 0.74 to 0.76, outperformed other GCPs. …”
