Streamflow prediction using artificial neural networks and soil moisture proxies by Robert Edwin Rouse, Doran Khamis, Scott Hosking, Allan McRobie, Emily Shuckburgh

    Published 2025-01-01
“…In this paper, using data from the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology’s National River Flow Archive and from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, we present a study that focuses on the input variable set for a neural network streamflow model to demonstrate how certain variables can be internalized, leading to a compressed feature set. …”

GRAiCE: reconstructing terrestrial water storage anomalies with recurrent neural networks by Irene Palazzoli, Serena Ceola, Pierre Gentine

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Overall, GRAiCE outperforms a previous reference TWSA reconstruction in predicting observed TWSA and provides reliable water budget estimates at the river basin scale. By generating long-term continuous TWSA time series, GRAiCE will offer valuable insights into the impacts of climate variability and change on freshwater resources.…”

Origine et usages de la notion de services écosystémiques : éclairages sur son apport à la gestion des hydrosystèmes by Simon Dufour, Xavier Arnauld de Sartre, Monica Castro, Johan Oszwald, Anne Julia Rollet

    Published 2016-08-01
“…To date, the actual contribution of the concept is limited and its potential contribution is constrained by technical reasons including the difficulty for evaluating services provided by river ecosystems. Although the educational dimension of the ES concept seems relevant, its usefulness concerning its quantitative characterization and economic valuation needs further discussion.…”

Characteristics and Classified Governance Strategies of Medium and Small Estuaries in Guangdong by CHEN Ying, WANG Shijun, HE Yong

    Published 2022-01-01
“…This paper adopted the methods of field investigation, remote sensing analysis, and sedimentary dynamic analysis, summarized the characteristics of medium and small estuaries in Guangdong Province, and analyzed the main problems in the ecological governance of the estuaries. In addition, the paper studied typical experience in governing medium and small estuaries both in China and abroad and proposed classified governance strategies for medium and small estuaries. The results show that:①Medium and small estuaries in Guangdong Province are mainly divided into sandbar-lagoon estuaries, tidal channel estuaries, and drowned valley estuaries.Specifically,sandbar-lagoon estuaries are widely distributed.Tidal channel estuaries are mainly distributed in the west of Guangdong Province, and drowned valley estuaries can be found in the Leizhou Peninsula, the east coast of Shenzhen, and the east of Huizhou.②Medium and small estuaries face some problems, such as imperfect flood control systems, fragmented management, ineffective regional ecosystem service functions, and defective policies and systems for the construction of Lingnan water culture and the excavation, protection, and utilization of water heritage.③The paper proposed overall strategies of coordinated land and maritime development and systematic governance for medium and small estuaries as well as classified governance strategies for different estuaries and rivers, and the research results can provide some reference for the governance of medium and small estuaries in Guangdong Province.…”

Joint Flood Control Operation of Reservoirs in Xiaoshui Basin Based on DP-PS Algorithm by SHENG Dong, XU Xingyi, LIN Fanqi, HE Huaiguang, YUAN Yanmei, LUO Jinming

    Published 2024-10-01
“…Taking the reservoir group in the Xiaoshui Basin as the research object, this paper builds a model of joint flood control operation of the reservoir group in the Xiaoshui Basin under combined floods from main and tributary rivers of different frequencies. On this basis, the dynamic programming-pattern search algorithm (DP-PS) is introduced to solve the model, and the operation scheme under the most unfavorable flood scenario is obtained. …”
