The Rickettsia actin-based motility effectors RickA and Sca2 contribute differently to cell-to-cell spread and pathogenicity
Published 2025-02-01“…Rickettsia parkeri is unusual in having two bacterial proteins that mediate actin-based motility. The significance of our research is to reveal that each of these bacterial actin-based motility proteins contributes differently to spread between cells and to the signs of infection in a mouse model of spotted fever disease. …”

Electroacupuncture at Quchi and Zusanli Enhances the Proliferation of Cortex and SVZ-derived Neural Stem Cell in Cerebral Ischemia-Reperfusion Injured Rats Via Activation of Notch1...
Published 2015-10-01“…The distribution of Nestin, Vimentin positive cells and co-labeled with Brdu were observed by immunohistochemistry and immuno-fluorescence. The expressions of proteins associated with Notch1 signaling pathway were detected by Western Blotting.Results:①The neurological deficit scores and infarct volume were reduced after EA at the Quchi and Zusanli acupints in ischemia-reperfusion injury rats (P<0.05). ②Catwalk gait analysis showed that at the 3rd and 7th day after acupuncture therapy, the average speed increased and the duration decreased when the rats went through Catwalk channel (P<0.05). ③The numbers of Ki-67, Nestin and Vimentin positive cells in ischemic surrounding cortex and ischemic SVZ region were increased after ischemia-reperfusion injury at 8th day in comparation with 4th day in the model group rats (P<0.05 or P<0.01). …”

Could flavonoid aglycones prevent the absorption of flavonoid glycosides by inhibiting sodium-dependent glucose transporter-1 in the small intestine?
Published 2023-08-01“…In this commentary article, an interesting paradox is presented: while the ingested flavonoid glycosides can be absorbed by means of sodium-dependent glucose transporters (SGLTs; SGLT1) located in the brush border membrane facing the lumen of the small intestine, certain flavonoid aglycones are able to inhibit these shuttle proteins. It is expected that avoiding the co-intake of such SGLT1 inhibitors concomitantly with flavonoid-rich foods might provide a new option for enhancing the oral bioavailability of flavonoids, thereby preventing the transport of unabsorbed compounds to the large intestine and conversion into catabolites by the colonic microbiota. …”
