Predicting the effects of introducing an emergency transport system in low-income and middle-income countries: a spatial-epidemiological modelling study
Published 2024-04-01“…Maps showing the probability of reduced transfer time with the ambulance service may be particularly useful and allow for resource allocation planning. Conclusions Although there is scope for improvement in our model and in the data available to populate the model and inform parameter choices, we believe this work provides a foundation for pioneering methodology to predict the effect of introducing an ambulance system. …”

Variation in the incidence of type 1 diabetes mellitus in children and adolescents by world region and country income group: A scoping review.
Published 2022-01-01“…There is a dearth of information on T1D in LMICs, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where incidence remains largely unknown. Investment in population-based registries and longitudinal cohort studies could help improve the current understanding of the epidemiological trends and help inform health policy, resource allocation, and targeted interventions to enhance access to effective, efficient, equitable, and responsive healthcare services.…”

Investigation of malaria vectors Anopheles in non-endemic areas of Thailand: in proximity to workplaces housing foreign migrant workers
Published 2025-01-01“…The findings emphasized the important of addressing the presence of Anopheles malaria vectors, especially in the substantial migrant worker population originating from endemic areas. This situation raises concerns regarding the potential transmission of malaria infections to regions not traditionally affected by the disease. …”

Ten Candidate Genes Were Identified to Be Associated with the Great Growth Differentiation in the Three-Way Cross Hybrid Abalone
Published 2025-01-01“…Abalone is an economically important mollusk, whose slow growth has impeded the recovery of its wild populations and development of aquaculture. The three-way cross hybrid abalone ((<i>Haliotis discus hannai</i>♀ × <i>H. fulgens</i>♂)♀ × <i>H. gigantea</i>♂, DF × SS) demonstrated notable diversity in growth traits across the population with genetic differentiation, offering a model for exploring the molecular mechanisms of abalone growth. …”

Results of Selective Biochemical Screening for Lysosomal Acid Lipase Deficiency and Sequencing of the <i>LIPA</i> Gene in the Risk Group Patients
Published 2025-02-01“…The c.894G>A variant is the most common variant worldwide among patients with a confirmed diagnosis of LAL deficiency and was present in all confirmed cases in this study, suggesting that this variant is the predominant mutation in the LIPA gene in Russian population. Pathogenicity status of previously undescribed discovered mutations (c.35dup and c.176A>G) needs to be determined.…”

Obesity prevalence among healthcare professionals in England: a cross-sectional study using the Health Survey for England
Published 2017-12-01“…Objective To estimate obesity prevalence among healthcare professionals in England and compare prevalence with those working outside of the health services.Design Cross-sectional study based on data from 5 years (2008–2012) of the nationally representative Health Survey for England.Setting England.Participants 20 103 adults aged 17–65 years indicating they were economically active at the time of survey classified into four occupational groups: nurses (n=422), other healthcare professionals (n=412), unregistered care workers (n=736) and individuals employed in non-health-related occupations (n=18 533).Outcome measure Prevalence of obesity defined as body mass index ≥30.0 with 95% CIs and weighted to reflect the population. Results Obesity prevalence was high across all occupational groups including: among nurses (25.1%, 95% CI 20.9% to 29.4%); other healthcare professionals (14.4%, 95% CI 11.0% to 17.8%); non-health-related occupations (23.5%, 95% CI 22.9% to 24.1%); and unregistered care workers who had the highest prevalence of obesity (31.9%, 95% CI 28.4% to 35.3%). …”
