Published 2024-12-01“… The COVID-19 pandemic remains a significant public health threat with over 7 million deaths worldwide (as of 14 January 2024).1 In Singapore, oral antivirals (OAVs) nirmatrelvir/ritonavir and molnupiravir were approved in 2022 for treating mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adults at risk of progression to severe disease.2,3 Clinical trials in Western populations showed nirmatrelvir/ritonavir having higher efficacy in reducing hospitalisations and mortality by 88% compared to 30% for molnupiravir.2-4 A Singapore study showed nirmatrelvir/ritonavir’s effectiveness in reducing hospitalisation and severe COVID-19.5 However, further research is needed on potential adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and control of COVID-19 symptoms in Asian populations. …”
