Two Cases of Cartilaginous Choristoma—Not Chondroma of the Bony External Auditory Canal by Kohei Yamahara, Yuki Katsura, Yuki Egawa, Kana Lee, Satoshi Ikegami

    Published 2018-01-01
“…To diagnose a mass as cartilaginous choristoma on the bony external auditory canal, it is necessary to confirm that it does not originate from the underlying periosteum. Here, we present the cases of two patients with typical cartilaginous masses on the bony external auditory canal, in which the surgical findings showed that the masses were not in contact with the underlying periosteum, indicating that cartilaginous choristoma—not chondroma—is an appropriate diagnosis for these mass lesions. …”

Effects of a Nonuniform Tip Clearance Profile on the Performance and Flow Field in a Centrifugal Compressor by Yohan Jung, Minsuk Choi, Seonghwan Oh, Jehyun Baek

    Published 2012-01-01
“…The accuracy of the numerical simulations was assessed by comparing the experimental data with the computational results for a system characterized by the original tip clearance. Although the performance improved for low tip clearances, a low tip clearance at the trailing edge improved the compressor performance more significantly than a low tip clearance at the leading edge. …”

A roadmap from the bond strength to the grain-boundary energies and macro strength of metals by Xin Li, Hao Wu, Wang Gao, Qing Jiang

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Motivated by the role of grain boundaries in the strength of metals, we introduce a predictive model to determine the grain-boundary energies and strength of metals from the cohesive energy and atomic radius. This scheme originates from the d-band characteristics and broken-bond spirit of tight-binding models, and demonstrates that the repulsive/attractive effects play different roles in the variation of bond strength for different metals. …”

Intraoperative rescue of a dislodged renal stent during fenestrated endovascular aortic repair for treatment of type 1A endoleak by Mario D’Oria, MD, Filippo Griselli, MD, Cristiano Calvagna, MD, Sandro Lepidi, MD

    Published 2025-02-01
“…Among these, presence of suprarenal bare stents from prior EVAR device are certainly a frequent scenario and may sometimes make target vessel cannulation more difficult because of encroachment on the target vessel origins. In this manuscript, we report a case intraoperative rescue of a dislodged renal stent during FEVAR for treatment of type 1 endoleak with the aim of showing the culprit of the complication, how to recognize it, and the off-label solution that was devised to solve it.…”
