Is There Synchronicity in Nitrogen Input and Output Fluxes at the Noland Divide Watershed, a Small N-Saturated Forested Catchment in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park? by H. Van Miegroet, I.F. Creed, N.S. Nicholas, D.G. Tarboton, K.L. Webster, J. Shubzda, B. Robinson, J. Smoot, D. W. Johnson, S. E. Lindberg, G. Lovett, S. Nodvin, S. Moore

    Published 2001-01-01
“…Poir] forests in the Southern Appalachians currently receive large nitrogen (N) inputs via atmospheric deposition (30 kg N ha1 year1) but have limited N retention capacity due to a combination of stand age, heavy fir mortality caused by exotic insect infestations, and numerous gaps caused by windfalls and ice storms. …”

Toxin-antitoxin genes are differentially expressed in Escherichia coli relA and spoT mutans cultured under nitrogen, fatty acid, or carbon starvation conditions by Monika Maciąg-Dorszyńska, Paweł Olszewski, Monika Karczewska, Lidia Boss

    Published 2025-01-01
“…However, the exact link between (p)ppGpp and toxin-antitoxin systems’ activation, as well as toxin-antitoxin role in stress adaptation remains disputed.MethodsIn this study, we performed a complex analysis of changes (RNA-Seq) in the toxin-antitoxin operons’ transcription in response to nitrogen, fatty acid, or carbon starvation, in bacteria with different abilities of (p)ppGpp accumulation. Results and discussionAlthough we observed that in some cases (p)ppGpp accumulation appears to be crucial for transcriptional activation of TA genes (e.g., ghoST, ryeA), our data indicates that the general pattern of chromosomally encoded TA gene expression in E. coli differs depending on the nutrient distribution in the environment, regardless of the alarmone accumulation.…”

Highly efficient enzyme less glucose sensor based on cross-linked nitrogen-doped graphene aerogel incorporated with ytterbium oxide and decorated with nickel nitride nanoparticles by Mohammad Mazloum-Ardakani, Negar Shaker-Ardakani, Fatemeh Farbod

    Published 2024-01-01
“…The development of valuable Non-enzymatic glucose sensors relies extensively on the design of sensitive and cost-effective materials with high catalytic activity for the efficient electro-oxidation of glucose. In this work, nitrogen-doped reduced graphene aerogel decorated with Yb2O3 nanoparticles (GA:N–Yb2O3) was prepared via a simple one-step hydrothermal method. …”

Analysis of Adsorption Data of Nitrogen and Carbon Dioxide on Chemically-Activated Carbons from Cherry and Wild Cherry Stones by considering Different Approaches Based on Different Models by M.N. Alaya, M.A. Hourieh, F. El-Sejariah, A.M. Youssef

    Published 2001-05-01
“…Activated carbons were prepared by activation of cherry and wild cherry stones with phosphoric acid and zinc chloride. The adsorption of nitrogen at −196°C and of carbon dioxide at 0°C was followed and the data obtained analyzed through the use of models based on theories of surface coverage and micropore filling. …”

A Cause Analysis of the High-Content Nitrogen and Low-Content Hydrocarbon in Shale Gas: A Case Study of the Early Cambrian in Xiuwu Basin, Yangtze Region by Yizhou Huang, Kun Zhang, Zhenxue Jiang, Yan Song, Shu Jiang, Chengzao Jia, Weiwei Liu, Ming Wen, Xuelian Xie, Tianlin Liu, Xin Li, Xin Wang, Xiaoxue Liu, Ye Zhang, Ling Tang

    Published 2019-01-01
“…In some shale gas plays with great basis for hydrocarbon generation, a phenomenon exists that gas loggings reflect low gas bearing in some of the wells and the gas is dominated by nitrogen rather than hydrocarbon gas. The study of nitrogen concentration in shale gas contributes to solve the question that how shale gas diffuses in complex tectonic areas, which helps to figure out the preservation requirements and accumulation mechanisms of shale gas and avoid exploration crisis. …”
