“…Thanks to the feminists, and their criticism of the domestic division of labour, we are now aware that domestic work is done mostly by women, and we know that this division of work is not natural. Domestic work includes a set of very varied activities, from the “domestic tasks” themselves – to which the present article will limit itself –, to the management of income or holdings of the family, the education of the children, the care of the dependent persons – in particular the old and\or disabled ones –, or the organization of the family space-time. …”

NKT Cells in Sepsis by Briana Leung, Hobart W. Harris

    Published 2010-01-01
“…Previous studies suggest that the pathophysiology of sepsis involves the hyperactivation of complex proinflammatory cascades that include the activation of various immune cells and the exuberant secretion of proinflammatory cytokines by these cells. Natural killer T-cells (NKTs) are a sublineage of T cells that share characteristics of conventional T cells and NK cells and bridge innate and adaptive immunity. …”

PROBABILISTIC FATIGUE LIFE PREDICTION APPROACH FOR MULTI-SITE DAMAGE COMPONENTS by XIE LiYang, MA YuanYuan, LIU JianZhong, WU NingXiang, CHEN Bo

    Published 2015-01-01
“…Fatigue is a phenomenon of high uncertainty, especially for components with multiple damage sites. The fatigue life( either mean value or probability distribution of the random variable) of a complex component with multiple damage sites is not equal to that of a simple component with only one damage site.A multi-site damage component is a series system with many weak links( damage sites) in probability sense.A probabilistic fatigue life prediction model for multi-site damage component is presented based on a systematic thought,as well as the order statistics and extreme statistics concept.Such developed model can naturally reflect the effect of the dependence among different damage sites.Experimental result and the example on multi-site damage component fatigue life prediction shows that the fatigue life of a multi-site damage component is much lower than that of a single site damage component.…”

Study on Water Repellency Modification of Strongly Expansive Soil by DING Junhao, CHAI Linchun, ZHANG Jianjun

    Published 2022-01-01
“…To study the inhibition effect of water-repellent sand on the expansion rate of expansive soil, this study takes the strongly expansive soil of weathered slopes as an example and adds octadecylamine into sand as water repellent agents to improve the expansive soil. The expansion rate tests are carried out on the ring-knife samples with 27 times of compaction, and the expansion and contraction characteristics of modified expansive soil under the optimal water content are revealed. The results indicate that the natural soil changes from hydrophilic to water-repellent upon the addition of water-repellent sand into expansive soil, and the water repellency is significantly enhanced. The optimal water content of the five modified expansive soils decreases with the increase in water repellency, and the expansion rate is reduced from 35% to 9%,which means the expansion characteristics are greatly inhibited. It is feasible to restrain the expansion and seepage of strongly expansive soil by adding water-repellent sand (octadecylamine content of 0.04%).…”
