Mel et sal. Suavité et sévérité de la voix dans Twelfth Night
Published 2013-06-01“…In Twelfth Night, the characters’ voices, now acerbic, now suave, turn language into a real chamber of echoes when the sounds and songs of carnival, charivari, buffoonery and folly are alternately heard besides the sweet musical strains. Shakespeare’s comedy thus presents itself like an acoustic maze where identities and genres get blurred. …”

The Politics of Voice in Duke Ellington’s Beggar’s Holiday (1946)
Published 2013-06-01“…Duke Ellington and John Latouche made a number of pointed references to “highbrow” and “lowbrow” art in their 1947 musical Beggar’s Holiday. I argue that this dichotomy did more than classify; it also politicized the consumption and composition of art. …”

Combined wideband speech enhancement method based on statistical model and EMD
Published 2013-08-01“…A combined wideband speech enhancement method based on statistical model and empirical mode decomposition (EMD) was proposed.First, statistical model was used to eliminate the main noise component in noisy speech. Then, the residual noise was further suppressed by a post-processing module which is a speech enhancement algorithm with voice activity detection (VAD) based on EMD.The advantages of the two methods were combined effectively. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated under the standard of ITU-T G160.The experimental results indicate that the algorithm is more effective for improving the SNR in the different noise environments than classical statistical model approach.Meanwhile,in low SNR conditions, musical noise is reduced effectively, and the speech sounds more comfortable.…”

Improved speech enhancement based on spectral subtraction and auditory masking effect
Published 2008-01-01“…Taking into account the masking properties of human auditory system and the uncertainty of the speech pres-ence,the novel algorithm modifies the log-spectral amplitude estimation and the speech absence probability(SAP) pa-rameter.Then,the smoothing parameters in noise estimation and prior SNR estimation are adaptively adjusted to modi-fied SAP parameter which reflects the degree of stationary of the measured signal. The change of smoothing parameters allows for automatic adaptation with various noisy environments and obtains the best trade-off.Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has better performance of speech articulation without any perceptional musical-ity,compared to another modified spectral subtraction algorithms under the same level of noise reduction, and this supe-riority is more significant at very low SNR.…”
