Understanding neurocognitive recovery in older adults after total hip arthroplasty—neurocognitive assessment, blood biomarkers and patient experiences: a mixed-methods study
Published 2025-01-01“…This study aims to address the knowledge gap in postoperative neurocognitive recovery by exploring the relationship between subjective experiences, performance-based measurements, and blood biomarkers.Design Mixed-methods study with a convergent parallel (QUAL+quan) design.Setting and participants The study reports results from 40 older adult patients (52.5% women; mean age 73, SD 6.7) scheduled for total hip arthroplasty at a hospital in Sweden.Outcome measures Neurocognitive performance was assessed using a standardised test battery, neuroinflammation through blood biomarker analysis and postoperative neurocognitive recovery via semistructured interviews and the Swedish Quality of Recovery questionnaire. Results Five patients were classified as having delayed neurocognitive recovery based on performance tests. …”

Mechanistic PKPD modeling to describe cytokine release associated with CD3 T-cell engager therapies
Published 2025-01-01“…Therefore, innovative dosing strategies need to be implemented to mitigate the risk of developing CRS.MethodIn the presented work, a mechanistic pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PKPD) model describing cytokine release following TCE therapy has been developed combining literature knowledge and preclinical data. The model was developed to explore and test hypotheses regarding the mechanisms behind the decrease of cytokine release following two repeated TCE administrations.ResultsThe model is able to successfully reproduce the observed dynamics of cytokine levels associated with the initial and subsequent TCE doses, accounting for different dosing intervals. …”

Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation 2 (SCORE2), arterial stiffness, and subclinical coronary atherosclerosis in a population-based study
Published 2025-01-01“…When comparing the very high SCORE2 risk group to the low-moderate group, the OR was 16.2 (CI 11.3–23.1) for arterial stiffness and 6.4 (CI 4.2–9.7) for coronary calcification. Conclusion Our study shows that high cardiovascular risk according to SCORE2 is associated with increased arterial stiffness and significant coronary calcification in a population without prevalent cardiovascular disease or diabetes. This knowledge can be useful in primary care, where SCORE2 is frequently used as a risk prediction tool. …”
