Toward an Integrated Physiological Theory of Microbial Growth: From Subcellular Variables to Population Dynamics by Atul Narang, Sergei S. Pilyugin

    Published 2004-10-01
“…We presentthese physiological models in the order of increasing complexity. Thus, we begin with models of single-species growth in environmentscontaining a single growth-limiting substrate, then advance to modelsof single-species growth in mixed-substrate media, and conclude withmodels of multiple-species growth in mixed-substrate environments.Throughout the paper, we discuss both the analytical and simulationtechniques to illustrate how these models capture and explain variousexperimental phenomena. …”

Building Spectral Element Dynamic Matrices Using Finite Element Models of Waveguide Slices and Elastodynamic Equations by P.B. Silva, A.L. Goldstein, J.R.F. Arruda

    Published 2013-01-01
“…These spectral elements can be used to model homogeneous waveguides with constant cross section over long spans without the need of refining the finite element mesh along the waveguide. As an illustrating example, spectral elements are derived for straight uniform rods and beams and used to calculate the forced response in the longitudinal and transverse directions. …”

Cash usage in Poland in 2020: Insights into the role of the COVID-19 pandemic and spatial aspects by Radoslaw Kotkowski, Arkadiusz Manikowski

    Published 2023-07-01
“…Moreover, the results indicate significant spatial heterogeneity in payment behavior and that aspects like distance to the nearest ATM impacted cash usage, as more cash is used when ATMs are farther away, illustrating the concept of "cash burns." Lastly, it has been noticed that during the pandemic, ownership of contactless payment cards significantly reduced cash usage, most probably due to the fear of contracting the disease by physical contact with surfaces (like cash).…”

Effect of Freeze–Thaw Action on Mesostructure of Ecological Fiber Reinforced Loess by Zhongnan Gao, Xiaofeng Liu, Chao Cheng, Chen Li, Haifeng Zhang, Qian Wang

    Published 2025-01-01
“…The purpose of this research is to evaluate the impact of freezing and thawing cycles on the mesostructural attributes using loess reinforced with lignin fiber and to elucidate an effect of varying fiber doses in relation to the response of loess to freezing and thawing. The findings illustrate that the incorporation of fiber effectively eliminates the presence of overhead pores in the loess. …”

Private-preserving scientific computation of the rational numbers by Xuhong LIU, Chen SUN

    Published 2022-06-01
“…As a fundamental part of cryptography, secure multiparty computation (SMC) is a building block of various cryptographic protocols, and it is also a hot topic in the international cryptographic community. In recent years, many SMC problems, such as secret information comparison, secret set problems and secure multiparty computational geometry, have been widely studied. As many practical problems need to be described by rational numbers, it is both theoretically and practically important to study the SMC problems in the rational number field. However, most of the existing researches focus on integers and the studied data are mainly one-dimensional data. There are few researches on secure multiparty computation of multi-dimensional data in the rational number field, but they can’t be generalized.Based on the fractional representation of rational numbers, the new encoding schemes about rational numbers and rational number vectors were proposed, which could encode multi-dimensional data in the rational number field and provided new solutions for other SMC problems in the rational number field.Based on the encoding scheme and one-way hash function, some protocols were designed for equality problems and set problems in the rational number field. These protocols used basic arithmetic operation and hash operation to guarantee efficiency than existing related protocols. And these protocols didn’t limit the range of research data and they were more widely applicable. It proves that these protocols are secure in the semi-honest model using simulation paradigm, and demonstrates the efficiency and the applicability of these protocols by theoretical analysis and experiment.A practical example was also given to illustrate that approaches are more versatile, and they could also be directly used to solve some secure multiparty computational geometry problems in the rational number field.…”
