Delirium Management Quality Improvement Project to Improve Awareness and Screening in a Medical ICU
Published 2024-12-01“…<b>Results:</b> Using a dataset that spanned 9 pre- and 37 post-project months and included 3612 patients, 4470 admissions, and 33,913 patient days, we observed that delirium education was followed by a dramatic rise in CAM-ICU documentation, from <1% for daytime and nighttime shifts to peaks of 73% and 71%, respectively (<i>p</i> < 0.0001 for trend), and a fall in the proportion of mechanically ventilated patients ever receiving benzodiazepine infusions (69% to 41%; <i>p</i> < 0.0001). …”

Genotype-driven sensitivity of mice to tick-borne encephalitis virus correlates with differential host responses in peripheral macrophages and brain
Published 2025-01-01“…BALB/c mice have intermediate susceptibility to TBE virus (TBEV) and STS mice are highly resistant, whereas the recombinant congenic strain CcS-11, which carries 12.5% of the STS genome on the BALB/c background, is more susceptible than BALB/c mice. In the present study, we employed these genetically distinct mouse models to investigate the host response to TBEV infection in both peripheral macrophages, one of the initial target cell populations, and the brain, the terminal target organ of the virus. …”

YEARS clinical decision rule for diagnosing pulmonary embolism: a prospective diagnostic cohort follow-up study in primary care
Published 2025-02-01“…Objectives The Wells rule is often used in primary care to rule out pulmonary embolism (PE), but its efficiency is low as many referred patients do not have PE. In this study, we evaluated in primary care an alternative and potentially more efficient diagnostic strategy—the YEARS algorithm; a simplified three-item version of the Wells rule combined with a pretest probability adjusted D-dimer interpretation.Design In this comprehensive prospective diagnostic validation study, primary care patients suspected of PE were enrolled by their general practitioner. …”
