Diagnostic Capability of Pattern Electroretinogram and Three Circumpapillary Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness Circle Diameter Scans in Glaucoma Suspects
Published 2025-01-01“…MagD showed the foremost diagnostic capability (AUC = 0.81), followed by Mag (AUC = 0.799) and MagD/Mag (AUC = 0.762).Conclusion: Global, superior, and inferior RNFLT in 3.5 and 4.1 mm diameters, and MagD performed best in discriminating GS from controls, suggesting that a larger scan of 4.1 mm may be equally useful in glaucoma diagnosis as the conventional 3.5 mm diameter. We recommend using PERG with OCT of 3.5 or 4.1 mm diameters for glaucoma suspect diagnosis. Keywords: glaucoma suspects, glaucoma, PERG, SD-OCT, RNFL…”

Size distribution of extracellular vesicles in pretreatment ascites and plasma is correlated with primary treatment outcome in advanced high-grade serous carcinoma
Published 2025-02-01“…The correlations of the EV concentration and size distribution in ascites and plasma with treatment outcome, progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were analysed. We found a significant correlation between the EV size distribution in ascites and residual disease after primary cytoreductive surgery. …”

Acquisition of innate B cell properties and generation of autoreactive IgA antibodies by follicular B cells during homeostatic proliferation
Published 2025-01-01“…Employing adoptive transfer of different mature B cell subsets into lymphopenic Rag2-/- hosts, we here show that not only innate B cells – MZBs and B1a cells – but also adaptive FoBs were capable to differentiate into PCs and to produce IgM and class-switched IgA serum antibodies in a T cell-independent fashion during homeostatic proliferation. …”

Alpha 1-antitrypsin mitigates salt-sensitive hypertension in juvenile mice by reducing diacylglycerol concentrations and protein kinase C activity in kidney membranes
Published 2025-01-01“…IntroductionRecombinant alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) therapy has been shown to have beneficial effects to mitigate the progression of various diseases. Here, we hypothesized that administration of pharmaceutical-grade human AAT (hAAT) is effective in mitigating hypertension induced by salt-loading in juvenile mice by reducing the concentration of diacylglycerols (DAGs) and activity of protein kinase C (PKC) in the kidney.MethodsFour-week old 129Sv mice were salt-loaded to induce hypertension and then administered hAAT or vehicle.ResultsAdministration of hAAT was found to significantly reduce high blood pressure in both the active and inactive cycles of the 129Sv hypertensive mice. …”

Published 2025-01-01“…Our study aimed to develop and validate predictive models of periprosthetic femoral fracture (PPFF) necessitating revision and reoperation after elective total hip arthroplasty (THA). Methods: We included 154,519 primary elective THAs from the Swedish Arthroplasty Register (SAR), encompassing 21 patient-, surgical-, and implant-specific features, for model derivation and validation in predicting 30-day, 60-day, 90-day, and one-year revision and reoperation due to PPFF. …”

A LASSO-derived clinical score to predict severe acute kidney injury in the cardiac surgery recovery unit: a large retrospective cohort study using the MIMIC database
Published 2022-06-01“…Objectives We aimed to develop an effective tool for predicting severe acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients admitted to the cardiac surgery recovery unit (CSRU).Design A retrospective cohort study.Setting Data were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-III database, consisting of critically ill participants between 2001 and 2012 in the USA.Participants A total of 6271 patients admitted to the CSRU were enrolled from the MIMIC-III database.Primary and secondary outcome Stages 2–3 AKI.Result As identified by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and logistic regression, risk factors for AKI included age, sex, weight, respiratory rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, central venous pressure, urine output, partial pressure of oxygen, sedative use, furosemide use, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure and left heart catheterisation, all of which were used to establish a clinical score. …”
