Annual Characteristics of Runoff and Sediment in West River and North River Delta and Their Influencing Factors by ZHANG Yonghua, LU Yongqiu

    Published 2023-01-01
“…The analysis of annual characteristics of runoff and sediment based on the monthly measured hydrological data of Makou Station and Sanshui Station in the West River and North River delta over the past 50 years. It shows that the monthly runoff, sediment discharge, and sediment concentration of Makou Station and Sanshui Station are obviously of the “unimodal type”,with runoff and sediment concentrated in June and July during the flood season. The annual concentration ratio of runoff and sediment in the West River and North River delta is high with a decreasing trend, while the concentration period is concentrated in early July with a slight delay. The interannual variation trend of runoff and sediment in the West River and North River delta is mainly controlled by the variation of flood season and is affected to some extent by the regulation of the non-flood period. There is a consistent interannual trend of runoff with precipitation, but the annual concentration ratio is more affected by hydraulic engineering.Sand excavation in river channels affects the distribution of runoff and sediment by changing the diversion ratio of runoff and sediment.…”

Study on Reduction of Water Fins in the Middle Pier of the Spillway of Miaotang Reservoir by FU Xuhui, LIU Zhiqing, GONG Ao, LUO Yuanyuan, DIAO Yunchuan, HU Guangping

    Published 2022-01-01
“…The water fin phenomenon is a common hydraulic phenomenon behind the piers in the gate chambers of discharge structures such as spillways and spillway tunnels.Considering the serious water fin phenomenon at the tail of the middle pier of the spillway of Miaotang Reservoir,a model test with a scale of 1:30 is used to compare and study the three types of middle piers. The results reveal that the water flow of two holes meets and collides behind the elliptical middle pier of Type 1 to form a large-scale water fin.The middle pier of Type 2 has a limited effect in reducing the water fins at the tail of the pier in the spillway, and strong collision still occurs behind the pier. The front and rear ends of the tail middle pier of Type 3 are connected by streamlined curves to ensure that the water flows smoothly along the streamlined surface of the tail pier, and thus sudden changes in flow speed can be avoided to effectively reduce the scale of the water fin.In this way,the discharge flow is smooth, and the discharge flow pattern is significantly improved. The research results can provide a reference for similar engineering.…”

Multilayered Pipe Cutting Test for Remote Handling Maintenance by Haibin Chen, Jianwen Guo, Zhenzhong Sun, Xuejun Jia, Hong Tang

    Published 2015-01-01
“…In this study, the results were obtained from different cutting directions and supporting intensities of pipe baseplates comparisons: When enough power was provided and the blade gripper did not slip, the cutting direction had little impact on the cutting capacity but more on the fault surface; the clearance between the blades caused the rotating torque; for remote handling maintenance, good horizontal support of the long-handled lever of the hydraulic cutter was required. Significant conclusions were made for multilayered pipe cutting that are crucial for auxiliary tools development for remote handling maintenance.…”
