JWST, ALMA, and Keck Spectroscopic Constraints on the UV Luminosity Functions at z ∼ 7–14: Clumpiness and Compactness of the Brightest Galaxies in the Early Universe by Yuichi Harikane, Akio K. Inoue, Richard S. Ellis, Masami Ouchi, Yurina Nakazato, Naoki Yoshida, Yoshiaki Ono, Fengwu Sun, Riku A. Sato, Giovanni Ferrami, Seiji Fujimoto, Nobunari Kashikawa, Derek J. McLeod, Pablo G. Koekemoer, Nicolas Laporte, Chien-Hsiu Lee, Dan Magee, Hiroshi Matsuo, Yoshiki Matsuoka, Ken Mawatari, Kimihiko Nakajima, Minami Nakane, Yoichi Tamura, Hiroya Umeda, Hiroto Yanagisawa

    Published 2025-01-01
“…We find that ∼70% of the bright galaxies at z ∼ 7 exhibit clumpy morphologies with multiple subcomponents, suggesting merger-induced starburst activity, which is consistent with SED fitting results showing bursty star formation histories. At z ≳ 10, bright galaxies are classified into two types of galaxies: extended ones with weak high-ionization emission lines, and compact ones with strong high-ionization lines including N iv] λ 1486, indicating that at least two different processes (e.g., merger-induced starburst and compact star formation/AGN) are shaping the physical properties of the brightest galaxies at z ≳ 10 and are responsible for their overabundance.…”

Rice stable carbon and nitrogen isotope values as potential indicators of watering and manuring regimes by Rubi Wu, Rubi Wu, Eric J. Belfield, Yu Dong, Shangzong Feng, Xiangdong Fu, Nicholas P. Harberd, Fan Yang, Michael Charles, Amy Bogaard

    Published 2025-01-01
“…In this study, stable carbon and nitrogen isotope analysis was conducted on grains from rice of heritage landraces and modern varieties grown in a glasshouse pot experiment with three watering levels and two manuring levels, and from recent rice fields in China and South Korea including paddy and dry conditions, and with variable manuring histories. The pot experiment results indicate that there is a negative correlation between the δ13C values and watering levels in one heritage accession and three modern accessions; in the remaining two heritage accessions and one modern accession, a similar trend in δ13C values is observed between watering levels. …”

Remote Mapping of Bedrock for Future Cosmogenic Nuclide Exposure Dating Studies in Unvisited Areas of Antarctica by Jonathan R. Adams, Philippa J. Mason, Stephen J. Roberts, Dylan H. Rood, John L. Smellie, Keir A. Nichols, John Woodward, Joanne S. Johnson

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Cosmogenic nuclide exposure dating is an important technique for reconstructing glacial histories. Many of the most commonly applied cosmogenic nuclides are extracted from the mineral quartz, meaning sampling of felsic (silica-rich) rock is often preferred to sampling of mafic (silica-poor) rock for exposure dating studies. …”
