Quantitative Attribution of Runoff and Sediment Changes in the East River Basin and Impact on Erosion and Siltation of River Channel by LI Huadong, ZENG Jiali, PAN Yifei, ZHANG Li, LAI Zhigang

Published 2020-01-01
“…Under the disturbance of global warming and intensive human activities, runoff and sediment in the river basin have changed significantly, thus causing enormous ecological and environmental pressure in rivers, estuaries and coastal waters.Taking East River basin as the research object, this paper analyzes the temporal characteristics of runoff and sediment by M-K test and Pettitt test, quantitatively separates the impact of climate change and human activities on runoff and sediment in the river basin by the double mass curve method and modified SWAT model, and evaluates its effect on erosion and siltation of downstream river channel. Results show that:①SWAT model was suitable for the daily and monthly runoff and sediment simulations in the East River basin, with poor simulation for runoff and sediment with daily average discharges higher than 1 500 m3/s;②The change point of runoff and sediment was 1973 and 1988 respectively. Therefore, the baseline period for runoff was 1967—1973 and sediment was 1967—1988,while impact period was 2009—2016;③The impact of human activities on water and sediment changes in the basin is significant.Contribution of climate change and human activities for runoff in 2009—2016 was about 57% and 43% respectively.Climate change and population growth were the main contribution factors for annual runoff reduction. While human activities, especially dam construction, contributed over 90% of sediment.Population growth, soil and water conservation project, and dam construction in basin were the major factors for annual sediment reduction;④Affected by sand mining in river channel, after the baseline period, the impact of human activities, especially dam construction on the middle and lower channel was firstly decreased and then increased.During the impact period, the contribution of dam construction to the erosion and siltation of middle and lower river channel was 25.8%,which was not the main factor for the evolution of the middle and lower river channel.…”

Evolution of Dry/Wet Climate in Xichang from 1961 to 2016 by XIAO Xiwen, ZHANG Yunlu, LIU Chunhong, WANG Yuefeng

Published 2022-01-01
“…Regional climate analysis can optimize and supplement global climate research, and it is of vital significance for predicting regional climate changes and extreme weather.Based on the daily temperature and precipitation data from 1961 to 2016 in Xichang city, this paper systematically reveals the characteristics of temperature, precipitation, and dry and wet climate changes at annual and inter-annual scales by using the cumulative anomaly method, nonparametric trend analysis of time series (innovative trend analysis (ITA) method and ITA-change boxes (ITA-CB) method) and standardized precipitation evaporation index (SPEI).The results show that:① The distribution characteristics of annual temperature and precipitation in Xichang are similar, with the maximum value of both appearing in July. Moreover, the minimum temperature and precipitation appear in January and February, respectively. The average inter-annual and inter-decadal temperatures increase obviously, and the average inter-decadal precipitation improves slowly.② For the past 56 years,Xichang has witnessed apparent dry and wet climate changes.SPEI has dropped in a fluctuating tendency. In addition,it is negatively correlated with temperature (p<0.05) but positively correlated with precipitation (p<0.01).As temperature increases significantly, the drought degree has become more and more serious since 2003,and the negative value of SPEI accounts for 78.6%.The proportion of drought to extreme drought has increased to 28.6% in 2010.③ The average annual precipitation increases in low-value regions but decreases in high-value regions. The average annual temperature rises both in low-value regions and high-value regions and basically maintains an increasing tendency in median regions.SPEI increases in low-value regions but decreases in median and high-value regions. The research results can provide a reference for Xichang in dealing with climate change and formulating disaster prevention and mitigation plans.…”

Malicious code within model detection method based on model similarity by Degang WANG, Yi SUN, Chuanxin ZHOU, Qi GAO, Fan YANG

Published 2023-08-01
“…The privacy of user data in federated learning is mainly protected by exchanging model parameters instead of source data. However, federated learning still encounters many security challenges.Extensive research has been conducted to enhance model privacy and detect malicious model attacks.Nevertheless, the issue of risk-spreading through malicious code propagation during the frequent exchange of model data in the federated learning process has received limited attention. To address this issue, a method for detecting malicious code within models, based on model similarity, was proposed.By analyzing the iterative process of local and global models in federated learning, a model distance calculation method was introduced to quantify the similarity between models.Subsequently, the presence of a model carrying malicious code is detected based on the similarity between client models.Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed detection method. For a 178MB model containing 0.375MB embedded malicious code in a training set that is independent and identically distributed, the detection method achieves a true rate of 82.9% and a false positive rate of 1.8%.With 0.75MB of malicious code embedded in the model, the detection method achieves a true rate of 96.6% and a false positive rate of 0.38%.In the case of a non-independent and non-identically distributed training set, the accuracy of the detection method improves as the rate of malicious code embedding and the number of federated learning training rounds increase.Even when the malicious code is encrypted, the accuracy of the proposed detection method still achieves over 90%.In a multi-attacker scenario, the detection method maintains an accuracy of approximately 90% regardless of whether the number of attackers is known or unknown.…”
