Mesurer la ville par l’évaluation et la caractérisation du sol urbain : l’exemple de Tours by Amélie Laurent, Mélanie Fondrillon

    Published 2011-01-01
“…Based on the use of tools from earth science and applied to a problematic city history, two new approaches to pre-industrial city stratigraphy have been developed, the first concerning micro-archaeology, the second, geotechnics applied to the archaeological deposits.Conducted jointly, these two studies are doubly interesting: first, of a general nature, concerning the implementation of a methodology applicable to all urban phenomena, in particular by the creation of a common frame of reference for archaeological stratum, enabling undefined deposits to be described; the second interest, more selective, concerns the application of these general principles to one particular case of urban land formation, that of Tours. …”

Curing Black Hole Singularities with Local Scale Invariance by Predrag Dominis Prester

    Published 2016-01-01
“…Singularities appear due to the ill behaviour of gauge fixing conditions, one example being the gauge in which theory is classically equivalent to standard General Relativity. The main conclusions of our analysis are as follows: (1) singularities signal a phase transition from broken to unbroken phase of Weyl symmetry; (2) instead of a singularity, there is a “baby universe” or a white hole inside a black hole; (3) in the baby universe scenario, there is a critical mass after which reducing mass makes the black hole larger as viewed by outside observers; (4) if a black hole could be connected with white hole through the “singularity,” this would require breakdown of (classical) geometric description; (5) the singularity of Schwarzschild BH solution is nongeneric and so it is dangerous to rely on it in deriving general results. …”
