In Situ Stress Prediction in Subsurface Rocks: An Overview and a New Method by Yushuai Zhang, Shangxian Yin, Jincai Zhang

Published 2021-01-01
“…This new stress polygon is easier to implement and is more accurate to determine in situ stresses by narrowing the area of the conventional stress polygon when drilling-induced tensile fracture and wellbore breakout data are available. Using the generalized Hooke’s law and coupling pore pressure and in situ stresses, a new method for estimating the maximum horizontal stress is proposed. …”

Study on the Evolution of Water Gushing and Mud Bursting Process in Karst Tunnel by LEI Pengbo, XU Zhong, WANG Kunyun, HU Diyong, YANG Zhu, WANG Mengfei

Published 2020-01-01
“…With overall consideration of the influence of geological structure, hydrologic features, andconstruction, this paper abstractly generalizes the evolution of water gushing and mud burstingprocess in karst tunnel into four stages as follows:①The formation stage of karst geologicalenvironment provides geological conditions for the development and evolution of disaster-causingstructures;②The expansion stage of karst water system channel provides space for the storage andflow of water gushing and mud bursting; ③The critical state formation stage of karst watergushing and mud bursting is mainly affected by the disaster-causing mud & water body and theartificial excavation of tunnels; ④The energy release and depressurization stage of karst watergushing and mud bursting is the end of the whole process, indicating that the disaster hasoccurred.Based on case analysis, the water gushing and mud bursting in karst tunnel is divided into 11types in 3 classes according to different factors as follows: geological structure class (faulttype, syncline type, anticline type, lithology interface type), water gushing channel class(fracture type, pipe type, cave type, underground river type), and water gushing and mud burstingclass (water gushing type, mud bursting type, mud and water bursting type). The research results canprovide reference for the research on the control of water gushing and mud bursting in the tunneland the safety construction of the tunnel.…”
