Insights into greener Miocene biomes and globally enhanced terrestrial productivity from fossil leaves
Published 2025-01-01“…There is a dearth of Miocene data in the tropics and notably an absence of data points in equatorial localities that have high modern NPP (rainforests), which makes a direct comparison complicated. 89% of investigated sites underwent a precipitation decrease from the Miocene to modern, whereas 66% underwent a temperature decrease, and 60% underwent both a precipitation and a temperature decrease. 67% of sites had more productive biomes during the Miocene than today. Most notably, forested biomes were replaced by more open woodland/shrubland or grassland biomes. …”

Fitness landscapes of human microsatellites.
Published 2024-12-01“…We introduce four general models of natural selection that are each characterized by just two parameters, are easily simulated, and are specifically designed for microsatellites. Using a random forests approach to approximate Bayesian computation, we fit these models to carefully chosen microsatellites genotyped in 200 humans from a diverse collection of eight populations. …”

Enhancing prediction of wildfire occurrence and behavior in Alaska using spatio-temporal clustering and ensemble machine learning
Published 2025-03-01“…Wildfires are an integral part of Alaska’s ecological landscape, shaping its boreal forests and tundra. However, recent shifts in wildfire frequency, intensity, and seasonality pose unprecedented challenges for fire management in Alaska’s remote and ecologically vulnerable regions. …”
