Swirling Flow and Wall Shear: Evaluating the BioMimics 3D Helical Centerline Stent for the Femoropopliteal Segment by Timothy M. Sullivan, Thomas Zeller, Masato Nakamura, Colin G. Caro, Michael Lichtenberg

    Published 2018-01-01
“…In geometric X-ray analysis, the BioMimics stent was significantly more effective in imparting a helical shape even when the arterial segment was moderately to severely calcified. Computational fluid dynamics analysis showed that average wall shear was significantly higher with the helical centerline stent (1.13±0.13 Pa versus 1.06±0.12 Pa, p=0.05). …”

Targeting Soluble Amyloid Oligomers in Alzheimer’s Disease: A Hypothetical Model Study Comparing Intrathecal Pseudodelivery of mAbs Against Intravenous Administration by Manuel Menendez-Gonzalez

    Published 2025-01-01
“…This hypothetical study aimed to model amyloid dynamics in early-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and compare the efficacy of IV mAn with intrathecal pseudodelivery, a novel method that confines mAbs in a subcutaneous reservoir for selective amyloid clearance in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) without systemic exposure. Methods: A mathematical framework was employed to simulate Aβ dynamics in patients with early-to-moderate AD. …”

Energetically Consistent Eddy‐Diffusivity Mass‐Flux Convective Schemes: 1. Theory and Models by M. Perrot, F. Lemarié, T. Dubos

    Published 2025-01-01
“…This type of closure separates vertical turbulent fluxes into two components: an eddy‐diffusivity (ED) which accounts for local small‐scale mixing in a nearly isotropic environment, and a mass‐flux (MF) transport term, which represents the non‐local transport driven by vertically coherent plumes. Using the multi‐fluid averaging underlying the MF concept, we review consistent energy budgets between resolved and subgrid scales for seawater and dry atmosphere, in anelastic and Boussinesq frameworks. …”

Characteristics of Flow Field around Double Rectangular Piersin Tandem Based on RNG k-ε Turbulence Model by DING Anna

    Published 2022-01-01
“…Double rectangular piers in tandem have been widely used in bridge engineering, and the distance between the two piers has a significant impact on the characteristics of the flow field around them. This paper utilized the Fluent software to simulate the unsteady instantaneous flow field around a single rectangular pier and double rectangular piers in tandem by using the RNG k-ε turbulence model. The distribution characteristics of the flow field around the double rectangular piers in tandem at different distances (L/W=2,4,6) between the two piers were studied from the aspects of vorticity, streamline, pressure and transverse velocity. The results show that compared with that of the single rectangular pier, the fluid flow around the double rectangular piers in tandem is more complex and has wider lateral distributions of wake vortex and streamline bending zone. The generation, separation and reattachment of the shear layer of the two piers are affected by pier spacing. When L/W≥4,vortices are generated and fall off in the wake at the upstream pier.In such a case, the streamline bending zone, pressure increase zone and pressure decrease zone are formed between the two piers, and multiple pressure decrease zones are formed in the wake at the downstream pier. The transverse velocity of wakes at rectangular piers fluctuates between positive and negative.Compared with the single and symmetrical velocity waveform of the single pier, the transverse velocity waveform of the double rectangular piers is no longer symmetrically distributed. The peak transverse velocity between the two piers decreases with the increase in pier spacing, and the fluctuating peak values on both sides of the two piers are higher than those of the single pier. The fluctuating peak values are lower at a farther distance from the pier centerline. The research results can provide a reference for pier layout in bridge engineering.…”
