Pirates and Gallows at Execution Dock : Nautical Justice in Early Modern England by Samantha Frénée

    Published 2015-12-01
“…A representative of the Lord Admiral led the condemned to the gallows at low tide and their bodies remained on public display. This paper looks at the representation of such pirate justice in a number of the literary and non-literary texts of the early modern period in England; when piracy itself was a very fluid and inexact term. A pirate’s career could end in a number of ways: imprisonment, fines, torture, execution by hanging, a negotiated release, a royal pardon, escape, exile or respectable retirement. …”

3D convective flow in a hybrid nanofluid filled bi-truncated-pyramid equipped with adiabatic cylinders by Mohammed A. Almeshaal

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Numerical simulations based of the FEM were performed to analyze the effects of Rayleigh number (Ra), nanoparticle volume fraction (φ), and cylinders size (D) on the heat transfer and fluid flow (FF) within the pyramid. The results showed that at higher Ra and nanoparticle concentrations a significant enhancement of the HT occurs, and the average Nusselt number (Nua) was increased by up to 23% at a Ra = 106 and φ = 0.045. …”

RESEARCH ON ACOUSTIC RADIATION CHARACTERISTIC OF SAW BLADE CUTTING SYSTEM BASED ON MULTI-FIELD COUPLING by TIAN YongJun, DUAN GuoLin, YAO Tao, GANG JianHua, ZHANG E

    Published 2017-01-01
“…In order to study the distribution of sound field and quantitative estimates of the cutting noise,a multiphysics coupling model was constructed.Firstly, the vibration response of the fluid structure interaction system was extracted under multibody dynamic contact by using method of center difference. Moreover,a co-simulation method for the acoustic radiation model based on the boundary element method and acoustic coupling theory was presented. On this basis,a structure acoustic coupling model was established to calculate the sound pressure according to the results of the vibration response previously calculated. Then, the sound radiation in time domain characteristics and domain characteristics with the coupled system in half the space is studied. On the basis of the FSI theory, the computing results of the one-way coupling method and two-way coupling method are compared. Finally, the effects of radiating area influence on the sound power is discussed, makes clear the primarily radiation area.As compared with the experimentation results, the multi-field coupling model established in this paper about cutting noise of the saw blade is correct and feasible.…”

    Published 2021-01-01
“…In order to solve the limitations caused by the engine exhaust manifold structure optimization which usually adopts single factor control variable method or orthogonal test leading to the insignificant parameter interaction, the face centered combination method in the central composite design is used to respond to surface optimization, taking the engine exhaust manifold of a heavy chemical vehicle as the research object, the exhaust 38 groups of manifold structural parameters finish the fast matching, the mathematical model is established and polynomial response regression equation is concluded, fitting out of the exhaust manifold optimum structural parameters and corresponding flow uniformity index, additionally, the results of response surface optimization is verified by the numerical simulation. The results show that when the four branches are combined, the optimal structure fluid flow uniformity index of the exhaust manifold by the response surface method based on the face centered combination way is improved from the original 0.76 to 0.82,which is 6% higher than the initial structure.…”
