Application of HEC-RAS in 2D Dam Break Simulation-A Case Study of Hongqi Reservoir
Published 2021-01-01“…This paper simulates the dam break of Hongqi reservoir by HEC-RAS software, studies the discharge hydrograph of breach, the local flow pattern downstream of the breach, the propagation of dam break flood wave in flood area and the life loss caused by dam break flood, discusses the distribution of flood velocity and flood inundation depth, and draws the risk map of inundation depth. After analysis of the discharge hydrograph of breach,it is found that the larger the instantaneous breach size is,the greater the initial discharge is,and the faster the initial discharge hydrograph changes, while the smaller the breach size is,the slower the discharge hydrograph changes.Based on the evaluation of life loss caused by dam break flood, the loss of life and its severity coefficient are lower when the alarm time is longer. When there is no alarm, the life loss reaches 210.When the alarm time is 1 hour, the loss of life is obviously reduced, and the life loss is 0 when the alarm time is 3.5 hours.…”

Temporal and Spatial Characteristics of Tidal Current in the Eastern Waters of Macao in Summer
Published 2023-01-01“…The eastern waters of Macao at the Pearl River Estuary are an important channel for water and sediment discharged by the west beach of Lingdingyang Estuary and Macao waterway. The measured data during the flood seasons shows that the waters feature semi-diurnal tidal currents, and the average velocity in this area is about 21~23 cm/s during the flood and 18~29 cm/s during the ebb.The flowing direction is stable, namely,N—NNW trending during the flood and S trending during the ebb,and tidal power is stronger in the south. The average velocity in the waters is mainly dependent on the tidal type, and the flood runoff mainly affects residual currents and tidal duration.A stagnant area is formed in the north of the waters during the flood, and the water and sediment in the south are transported outside the Lingdingyang Estuary.Wind on the sea surface has a significant impact on the vertical dynamic structure of flow in the range of 40% water depth, and residual flow direction in the range of 10% water depth near the sea surface has a good follow-up.During southwest wind, the maximum horizontal flow velocity gradient appears in the second flood and ebb stage and corresponds to the occurrence of the maximum sediment concentration in the tidal cycle.Due to the shallow water depth in the north of the waters, the bed shear gradient force is generally greater than that in the south. As a result, the sediment concentration observed in the north of the waters is significantly higher than that in the southeast.According to the comprehensive analysis, astronomical tides, flood runoff, and wind are the main controlling dynamic factors in the waters. The friction resistance of shallow water in the north is drastically larger than that in the south, which leads to a significant difference in tidal duration and phases of vertical floods and ebbs.As a consequence, the special vertical dynamic structure of convergence on the surface and dispersion at the bottom is formed in the waters, which is strengthened by massive freshwater runoffs during the flood seasons. This leads to the trend of surface diluted water drifting to the east and the invasion of the nearshore by bottom high-salt water.…”

Design of Hydrological Telemetry System Based on NB-IoT Communication Technology
Published 2022-01-01“…With the progress in society and information technology, the rapid emergency response capability for urban flood, drought, and wind prevention needs to be improved.Given the demand, this paper adopts the low-power Internet of Things (NB-IoT) communication technology to design water and rain telemetry terminals in the way of product integration instead of traditional system integration. This technology further reduces the dependence of the equipment on the external environment and improves the stability and reliability of the front-end data acquisition of the hydrological telemetry system, making it possible to deploy the hydrological telemetry terminal for monitoring on a large scale.According to urban emergency prevention and control requirements,Guangzhou Nansha District Flood and Drought Prevention Headquarters Office constructed a new generation of hydrological telemetry system with low cost, strong scalability, and high reliability.By quickly covering urban flood risk points, the system can master real-time water and rain data in the key position of Nansha District to assist the emergency decision, improve emergency response capabilities, and realize the precise distribution of flood control forces, thus reducing the property losses for urban residents. The results show that the hydrological telemetry system based on NB-IoT communication technology applied on a large scale for the first time in Guangzhou can provide efficient data support for dealing with various disasters in flood seasons.…”

Encounter Risk Analysis of Rainfall and Tide in Shenzhen Based on Copula Function
Published 2021-01-01“…The disasters of encounter of extreme rainstorm and high tide level will aggravate the flood in coastal cities. In order to explore the impact of the encounter of rainstorm and tide on flood control and drainage in coastal cities, based on the annual maximum 1 day rainfall and its corresponding tide level data of Chiwan Station in Shenzhen from 1967 to 2018,the Copula function is used to construct a joint distribution model of annual maximum 1 day rainfall and its corresponding tide level, and the co-occurrence risk, the flood control risk, the condition risk and the combination risk of rain and tide in Shenzhen are calculated and analyzed. The results show that the risk of the encounter of rain and tide in Shenzhen is small, and the co-occurrence and combination risk probability of rainfall whose return period greater than 100 years and tidal level whose return period greater than 200 years are only 0.12% and 0.09%.The probability of the occurrence of rainfall or tide exceeding the standard magnitude is 1.09%,and its return period is less than 100 years. When the rainfall exceeds the standard magnitude, the probability of encountering an over-standard tide level is greater, with a probability of 12.33%.At the same time, with the increase of rainfall, the risk will also increase. Therefore,in the planning and design of flood and tide prevention and drainage in cities, the focus should be on attention and prevention.…”

Analysis of Earth Dam Break of a Reservoir Based on BREACH Model
Published 2021-01-01“…Frequent rain and flood may lead to earth dam break, resulting in serious consequences. Therefore,it is necessary to analyze the dam break and its impact.Based on the BREACH model, this paper studies the earth dam break of a reservoir. The results show that:in the piping dam break mode, with the increase of flood magnitude, the maximum breach discharge, final breach width and cumulative discharge also increase.Under the same flood magnitude, the maximum breach discharge and final average breach width of overtopping dam break are large, and the relative risk is great. In the given scheme, the earthquake emergency is safer than that in other schemes. In addition, the cumulative discharge is equal to the sum of initial storage capacity and inflow volume, which verifies the rationality of the calculation results from the model.…”
