Environmental health, climate change, and equity: Understanding geographic vulnerabilities by Gina Solomon, Matthew Gribble, Sheri Weiser

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Some geographic differences are readily apparent – such as the inherent vulnerability of coastal areas to sea level rise – whereas others are emerging. Geographic vulnerabilities are modified by the built environment and by disparities in the ability to adapt to climate change, further complicating the risk across the globe. …”

Design of task dividing and offloading algorithm in mobile edge computing by Jing LU, Hanlin LI, Lin GAO

    Published 2021-06-01
“…Mobile edge computing (MEC) emerges as a new paradigm that pushes the computing infrastructure from the remote cloud data center to the edge equipments. It provides a new solution to meet the delay sensitive and computing intensive requirements of Internet of things (IoT).In this work, the problem of tasks offloading and scheduling in the multi-user and multi-server MEC system was considered.Specifically, each user had a task-dependent application and the tasks could be either executed locally or remotely according to the dependence. Thus, the network performance was improved by unloading and scheduling the sub tasks.Quality of experience (QoE) and fairness between users were used to characterize the network performance, and the optimization problem was modeled as a joint dependent task offloading and scheduling (J-DTOS) problem. The J-DTOS problem was a non-linear mixed integer programming, which was NP-hard in general. The original problem was reformulated by introducing intermediate variables and proposing a near-optimal solution.Simulation results show that the proposed offloading and scheduling design can significantly improve the performance of the system.…”

Application and Discussion of Intelligent Operation and Maintenance of BIM Visualization Platform for Drainage Pumping Stations by PENG Muzhan, ZANG Peiyuan, REN Weixu, GAO Ting, XU Zedian

    Published 2022-01-01
“…The construction of a BIM visualization platform for the intelligent operation and maintenance of drainage pumping stations is an important part of smart water. It plays a crucial role in improving the project management level, reducing the loss of possible flood disasters, and strengthening the ability of water utilities to deal with risks. However,in the operation and maintenance management of traditional water utilities, the backward management methods and means often result in problems such as high costs, low efficiency, and slow response. Therefore, this paper puts forward a solution to the top-level design of the platform architecture. In view of the current management practice,we realize the functions including BIM model visualization, the unit operation status display, inventory asset management, statistical report query, and personnel management by combining the platform with the emerging technologies in the information field. This study demonstrates a good engineering application for the construction of the intelligent operation and maintenance platform and can be used for reference for the follow-up construction of smart water and the informatization of water conservancy.…”

Newman et la conscience dans son roman Callista et dans son sermon « Ce qui dispose à la foi » by Michel Durand

    Published 2009-12-01
“…Whilst a number of theological themes emerge which give the novel an apologetic dimension—the authority of the Church, the importance of the priesthood, the nature of evil and sin, the importance of the liturgy and the significance of martyrdom amongst others—the key theme of the novel, and its chief centre of interest, is to be found in the theme of conversion—this time to Christianity itself—and the role played by conscience in this process, as illustrated in the character of the young Greek pagan, Callista.…”
