Depth Design for Rectangular Stilling Well with Oblique Water Intake by XIE Hongying, QIU Yong, ZHOU Xinyu, GE Yafei, CUN Shoujian

    Published 2022-01-01
“…When the topography conditions cannot satisfy the needs of the length of the stilling pool during traditional bottom-flow energy dissipation, the energy can be dissipated by increasing the depth and width of the pool.To obtain suitable depths for a rectangular stilling well under different inflow conditions,we study the influence of well depth on the impact pressure borne by the bottom plate of the stilling well and the relationship between the Froude number of the incident submerged jet and well depth through hydraulic model tests. The research findings are as follows:The impact pressure and the variance of the fluctuating pressure in the impact zone both decrease as well depth increases, although their decreasing amplitudes gradually reduce; the suitable well depth the stilling well needs increases with the Froude number of the incident water flow.Relying on the test results,we also present a fitting formula for the water depth before the hydraulic jump of the incident water flow at the transect at the end of the discharge chute and the suitable depth for the stilling well. The proposed formula is expected to provide a reference for engineering design.…”

Seismic Performance of Steel Frames with Semirigid Connections by Iman Faridmehr, Mahmood Md. Tahir, Tom Lahmer, Mohd Hanim Osman

    Published 2017-01-01
“…Besides, the seismic performance of steel portal frames with semirigid connections was investigated through time history analysis where kinematic hysteresis model was assigned to semirigid connections to account for energy dissipation and unloading stiffness. Based on the results of the study, it was found that generally semirigid connections influenced the force distribution which resulted in the decrease in base shear and lighter frame compared to the rigid one. …”

Review of Comprehensive Measurements of Speciated NOy and its Chemistry: Need for Quantifying the Role of Heterogeneous Processes of HNO3 and HONO by Hajime Akimoto, Hiroshi Tanimoto

    Published 2020-11-01
“…Abstract To improve the credibility of chemistry schemes employed in chemical transport models (CTMs) aiming at predicting ozone mixing ratios in urban, rural, and regional scales, validation of models not only by observational data of O3 and NOx but also by individual species of reactive nitrogen NOy is necessary because the formation and dissipation of O3 in the atmosphere occur via reactions accompanying the transformation of NOx and NOy. …”
