Examining the effects of two cognitive styles (field dependence vs. field independence) on learners’ mobile-assisted vocabulary acquisition by Mehdipour-Kolour Danial, Ali Mohamad Bilal

    Published 2024-02-01
“…Learners with different cognitive styles (here, field dependence vs. field independence) may learn second language vocabulary differently in different vocabulary learning settings. Although cognitive style has been widely studied in second language research, little is known about how field dependence/independence affects learners’ vocabulary acquisition in a mobile-assisted learning setting. …”

Thermal Performance Analyses of Multiborehole Ground Heat Exchangers by Wanjing Luo, Changfu Tang, Yin Feng, Pu Miao

    Published 2017-01-01
“…By assuming a uniform inlet fluid temperature (UIFT), instead of uniform heat flux (UHF), the effects of thermal interference and the thermal performance difference between different boreholes can be examined. Simulation results indicate that the monthly average outlet fluid temperatures of GHEs will increase gradually while the annual cooling load of the GHEs is greater than the annual heating load. …”

Experimental Study on Acoustic Emission Characteristics of Granite and Sandstone under Uniaxial Compression by Yongshuai Sun, Fei Yu, Jianguo Lv

    Published 2023-01-01
“…The results of the study are as follows: there is a quiet zone in the acoustic emission event before the rock is destroyed and destabilized, and the higher the rock strength, the more obvious the quiet zone; this important feature can be used as a precursor feature of rock mass failure for prediction, and the rock acoustic emission energy rate is more obvious in the quiet area before destruction than the acoustic emission event rate; rock acoustic emission has experienced initial compaction zone, rising zone, peak zone, and descending zone, whether different rocks go through each stage and how long each stage lasts is related to the nature of the rock; under different loading methods, the failure mechanism of rock is different; the different loading rates of monotonic loading and grading loading will affect the change rate of acoustic emission.…”

Forecasting of Population Narcotization under the Implementation of a Drug Use Reduction Policy by Sergey Mityagin, Carlos Gershenson, Alexander Boukhanovsky

    Published 2020-01-01
“…Thereby, notwithstanding the fact that the phenomenology of the population narcotization process is similar in the different regions, approaches to the modeling of drug addiction may also substantially differ for different kinds of antidrug policies. This paper presents a survey of the available antidrug policies and the corresponding approaches to the simulation of population narcotization. …”

Impact of digital greening synergistic transformation on urban economic resilience in China: Evidence from quasi-natural experiments by Liangen Zeng, Meiyu Wen, Chengming Li, Yang Nie, Saige Wang

    Published 2025-01-01
“…This paper examines panel data from 280 Chinese cities (2008–2021) by performing quasi-natural experiments from the ‘Broadband China’ and ‘Low-Carbon Cities’ pilot initiatives and employing a multi-period difference-in-differences (DID) approach. The main findings are as follows. (1) DGST notably enhances urban economic resilience, showing stronger effects than standalone pilot projects. (2) DGST strengthens economic resilience by enhancing defence, adaptation and learning capacities through labour absorption, industrial structure optimisation and green technology innovation. (3) The effect of DGST on economic resilience is influenced by factors such as human capital, financial resources and infrastructure, with cities possessing greater resources deriving more substantial benefits. (4) Cities that implemented ‘Low-Carbon Cities’ prior to ‘Broadband China’ experienced more pronounced improvements in economic resilience. …”
