Understanding rangeland desertification through pastoralist perspectives using a grounded theory approach
Published 2025-01-01“…Data collection was conducted through in-depth, semi-structured interviews, with thematic analysis carried out via open, axial, and selective coding. Results revealed three primary categories of desertification indicators: “vegetation,” “employment and income sources,” and “climate and natural hazards,” scoring 3.08, 3.00, and 2.80, respectively. …”

When spatial agency bias and the advantage of the first mention are in contradiction: Evidence from Czech, German, and Spanish
Published 2023-12-01“…The spatial placement of the agent figures in the sentences was coded. Results show that although the asymmetrical effect is strong in prototypical SVO sentences, where the subject has the function of an agent and the object a function of a patient, the effect is weaker or disappears in passive sentences, where the subject at the first position is a patient and object on the second position is an agent, as well as in topicalized (OVS) sentences. …”

Analysis of factors affecting the evolution of the sign system and the duality of identity in the urban context with a semiotic approach
Published 2021-09-01“…Studies in the old context relied heavily on documents and in the new context is field and the samples were studied in hot and dry areas of Iran. The results show that based on the study of representations in the symbolic system in the textual layers of the city form, the duality of meaning and identity of the old and new textures of a city over time indicate several main factors of change within the textual layers of the form of city, the rupture and duality in the human layer and change in the system of codes that affect the structure of the city form, which is manifested in the elimination, replacement or change of signs in the natural, social and artificial layers.…”

Information Compression as a Unifying Principle in Human Learning, Perception, and Cognition
Published 2019-01-01“…Evidence includes the following: information compression can mean selective advantage for any creature; the storage and utilisation of the relatively enormous quantities of sensory information would be made easier if the redundancy of incoming information was to be reduced; content words in natural languages, with their meanings, may be seen as ICMUP; other techniques for compression of information—such as class-inclusion hierarchies, schema-plus-correction, run-length coding, and part-whole hierarchies—may be seen in psychological phenomena; ICMUP may be seen in how we merge multiple views to make one, in recognition, in binocular vision, in how we can abstract object concepts via motion, in adaptation of sensory units in the eye of Limulus, the horseshoe crab, and in other examples of adaptation; the discovery of the segmental structure of language (words and phrases), grammatical inference, and the correction of over- and undergeneralisations in learning may be understood in terms of ICMUP; information compression may be seen in the perceptual constancies; there is indirect evidence for ICMUP in human cognition via kinds of redundancy such as the decimal expansion of π which are difficult for people to detect; much of the structure and workings of mathematics—an aid to human thinking—may be understood in terms of ICMUP; and there is additional evidence via the SP Theory of Intelligence and its realisation in the SP Computer Model. …”
