The role of violence in the classics of Brazilian Social Thought
Published 2018-01-01“…This essay had the objective of problematizing the role of violence in Brazilian social life and of discussing the relevance it poses in three classics of Brazilian Social Thought. By analyzing how the issue was treated in Casa-Grande & Senzala, Raízes do Brasil, and Formação do Brasil Contemporâneo, we aimed at defending the argument that, although the emergence of violence appears to be, to certain common sense, a new phenomenon, its widespread employment has been an integrative element of social interactions in Brazil, but is mainly used against more vulnerable segments of society. …”

Multilocal invariants for the classical groups
Published 2003-01-01“…Multilocal higher-order invariants, which are higher-order invariants defined at distinct points of representation space, for the classical groups are derived in a systematic way. The basic invariants for the classical groups are the well-known polynomial or rational invariants as derived from the Capelli identities. …”

Classical and quantum spin liquids
Published 2025-01-01“…This phenomenon of phase transition has been well understood using statistical mechanics and simple modelling. In this short lecture notes, we will review the possibility that a many-body magnetic system may remain magnetically disordered down to zero-temperature, both for classical or quantum spins. These exotic phases of matter are known, respectively, as classical and quantum spin liquids. We will address in particular the question of classification of these classical or quantum disordered phases. …”
