Unstructured Grids and the Multigroup Neutron Diffusion Equation by German Theler

    Published 2013-01-01
“…A simple two-dimensional homogeneous circular reactor is solved using a coarse unstructured grid in order to illustrate some basic differences between the finite volumes and the finite elements method. Also, the classic 2D IAEA PWR benchmark problem is solved for eighty combinations of symmetries, meshing algorithms, basic geometric entities, discretization schemes, and characteristic grid lengths, giving even more insight into the peculiarities that arise when solving the neutron diffusion equation using unstructured grids.…”

    Published 2014-08-01
“…After its introduction into the U.S. by the aquarium industry in the 1950s (Langeland 1996), various control methods, including biological control, were developed and used to manage infestations. Classical biological control studies were initiated in the 1970s, which led to the release of four insects in the U.S., two of which were the leaf-mining ephydrid flies, Hydrellia pakistanae and Hydrellia balciunasi. …”

Adaptive-mutation Whale Optimization Algorithm for Flood Control Operation of Reservoir Groups by GONG Jintai, FENG Zhongkai, WANG Sen, JIA Wenhao

    Published 2023-01-01
“…Flood control operation of reservoir groups is a complex nonlinear optimization problem involving multiple dimensions, variables, and stages, and plays a vital role in developing efficient and stable methods to enhance the overall flood control capacity of river basins.Whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is an innovative evolutionary algorithm inspired by whale predation behaviors. However, when it is employed to solve flood control operation, problems of premature convergence and proneness to fall into local optimum will occur. To this end, this paper proposes an adaptive-mutation whale optimization algorithm (AWOA) for solving the flood control operation of reservoir groups. In AWOA,an enhanced chaotic strategy is adopted to ensure the dispersion and uniformity of the initial operation scheme.Secondly,a reverse oscillation mutation strategy is utilized to enhance the global search ability. Finally,an adaptive weight strategy is leveraged to realize local fine exploration.Classical test functions and typical operation scenarios in West River show that the proposed method has significant peak shaving effects under various scenarios. With a fast convergence rate and high search accuracy,AWOA provides a novel and practical method for solving the flood control operation of reservoir groups.…”

Education as Performative Contradiction: Limits (And Possibilities) of Subjectification in the Anthropocene by Audrius Pocius

    Published 2025-01-01
“…It is divided into three parts: 1) following Chakrabarty, I identify the politico-aesthetic challenges posed by anthropogenic climate change and formulate their relevance as an educational ordeal; 2) I enquire about the challenges and possibilities for environmental education to foster societal change and conclude that, while a general policy change toward sustainable education may be insufficient, education remains a premier site where negotiations could take place between the deep-seated beliefs about subjectivity and an open anticipation of unforeseen modes of agency; 3) after providing a comparative analysis of classical humanist Bildung and post-humanist accounts of subjectification in education, I conclude that these approaches constitute a performative contradiction, which allows the experiential challenges of the Anthropocene to be approached in terms of a reimagined aesthetic education thematized as a critique of (human) capacity. …”
