Potential quantum advantage for simulation of fluid dynamics by Xiangyu Li, Xiaolong Yin, Nathan Wiebe, Jaehun Chun, Gregory K. Schenter, Margaret S. Cheung, Johannes Mülmenstädt

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Based on this, we apply a quantum algorithm for simulating the Carleman-linearized lattice Boltzmann equation and provide evidence that its cost scales logarithmically with system size compared with polynomial scaling in the best known classical algorithms. In this paper, we suggest that a quantum advantage may exist for simulating fluid dynamics, paving the way for simulating nonlinear multiscale transport phenomena in a wide range of disciplines using quantum computing.…”

Hydrellia fly parasitic wasp Trichopria columbiana Ashmead (Insecta: Hymenoptera: Diapriidae) by Byron R. Coon, Nathan E. Harms, Michael J. Grodowitz, Emma N.I. Weeks, James P. Cuda

    Published 2014-08-01
“…After its introduction into the U.S. by the aquarium industry in the 1950s (Langeland 1996), various control methods, including biological control, were developed and used to manage infestations. Classical biological control studies were initiated in the 1970s, which led to the release of four insects in the U.S., two of which were the leaf-mining ephydrid flies, Hydrellia pakistanae and Hydrellia balciunasi. …”

Interference alignment based on optimizing bit allocation with limited feedback in interfering MIMO-MAC networks by Xian-zhong XIE, Dan LI, Wei-jia LEI, Sen-lin ZHANG

    Published 2017-11-01
“…A novel limited feedback for interference alignment algorithm was proposed based on the disadvantages of traditional limited feedback interference alignment schemes for MIMO uplink.Unlike the traditional linear interference alignment,an iterative scheme was presented. The pre-coder was designed through maximizing the target signal to the interference leakage and noise ratio, and interference suppression matrix was designed by maximizing the signal to interference plus noise ratio for each data stream, which can come over rate loss in low SNR.In addition, the bit allocation of traditional limited feedback schemes were based on the mean of interference leakage, which were not perfect and make the total number of the effective bits less than the bits provided by system. Thus,a novel bit allocation scheme was provided that improving bit utilize and decreasing quantization error.Theoretical analysis and simulation experiments show that compare to the existed classical algorithms, the algorithm was a stepwise enhancement of signal quality for iterative search in perfect CSI which was better than linear algorithm and has a larger space with no need for strictly align interference in limited feedback CSI which reduces the influence of quantization error more. The effective bit distribution and bit utilization are improved by bit allocation, resulting in improved performance in limited feedback.…”

La fabrique des écoliers, ou l'enfance enfermée by Henri Louis Go

    Published 2025-01-01
“…For Arendt, the institution of school is supposed to stand between the family and the world, as a transition, because the institution of school is part of the pre-political sphere, and we can't pretend to forge a project of political transformation by acting on the newcomers: children can't and shouldn't take part in the world. Classical schooling is therefore the first act in a process of alienation that dispossesses each individual of his or her own existence through institutions of confinement. …”

Then we discuss Pentecostalism and its relationship to the secular domain. …”
