A novel data augmentation tool for enhancing machine learning classification: A new application of the higher order dynamic mode decomposition for improved cardiac disease identification by Nourelhouda Groun, María Villalba-Orero, Lucía Casado-Martín, Enrique Lara-Pezzi, Eusebio Valero, Jesús Garicano-Mena, Soledad Le Clainche

    Published 2025-03-01
“…In this work, a data-driven, modal decomposition method, the higher order dynamic mode decomposition (HODMD), is combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN) in order to improve the classification accuracy of several cardiac diseases using echocardiography images. The HODMD algorithm is used first as feature extraction technique for the echocardiography datasets, taken from both healthy mice and mice afflicted by different cardiac diseases (Diabetic Cardiomyopathy, Obesity, TAC Hypertrophy and Myocardial Infarction). …”

Risk of Dementia and Its Associated Factors Among the Patients With Coronary Artery Disease Attending a Tertiary Cardiac Hospital of Dhaka City: A Cross‐Sectional Study by Fardina Rahman Omi, Lingkan Barua, Palash Chandra Banik, Syed Mosfiqur Rahman, Mithila Faruque

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Methods This cross‐sectional study conveniently recruited 280 stable patients with CAD who were admitted for coronary revascularization at a tertiary cardiac hospital situated in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Data were collected face‐to‐face using a pretested questionnaire adapted from the WHO STEP‐wise Approach to Surveillance (STEPS) of Noncommunicable Diseases Risk Factors questionnaire (Version 3.2). …”

A LASSO-derived clinical score to predict severe acute kidney injury in the cardiac surgery recovery unit: a large retrospective cohort study using the MIMIC database by Qi Guo, Jingjing Huang, Yuewei Li, Hongwei Li, Jingfeng Wang, Yong Xie, Tucheng Huang, Wanbing He, Wenyu Lv, Jieping Huang, Yangxin Chen

    Published 2022-06-01
“…Objectives We aimed to develop an effective tool for predicting severe acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients admitted to the cardiac surgery recovery unit (CSRU).Design A retrospective cohort study.Setting Data were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-III database, consisting of critically ill participants between 2001 and 2012 in the USA.Participants A total of 6271 patients admitted to the CSRU were enrolled from the MIMIC-III database.Primary and secondary outcome Stages 2–3 AKI.Result As identified by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and logistic regression, risk factors for AKI included age, sex, weight, respiratory rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, central venous pressure, urine output, partial pressure of oxygen, sedative use, furosemide use, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure and left heart catheterisation, all of which were used to establish a clinical score. …”

Comparative evaluation of high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) and conventional oxygen therapy (COT) in infants after non-cardiac surgery: Study protocol of a randomized controlled trial. by Diwei Zhang, Tianqing Gong, Qinghua Huang, Qianqian Zhang, Kai Liu, Jia Li, Hai Yu, Yu Cui

    Published 2025-01-01
“…HFNC on postoperative outcomes in infants undergoing non-cardiac surgery. We hypothesize that prophylactic use of HFNC after non-cardiac surgery in infants would reduce the incidence of post-anesthesia hypoxemia and could also be adapted as first-line oxygen therapy after non-cardiac surgery.…”
