Comparison of the Recoil of Conventional and Electromagnetic Cannon by Edward M. Schmidt

    Published 2001-01-01
“…The recoil from an electromagnetic (EM) railgun is discussed and compared with that from conventional, propellant gas driven cannon. It is shown that, under similar launch conditions, the recoil of the EM gun is less than that of the powder gun; however, use of a muzzle brake on a powder gun can alter this relative behavior.…”

Design and Force Analysis of Cannon Drum Transmission System by Liu Jie, Li Hui, Li Qiang

    Published 2015-01-01
“…On the basis of analysis of the future development direction of naval gun system and the study of existing domestic and international shell-feeding system, learn from the desirability of them,an effective and feasible scheme model is established, the overall structure is determined.Through comparing and analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of different transmission mechanism, the gear transmission mechanism connecting by rotary supporting is adopted for the cannon drum. The rotary inertia of cannon drum rotating part is calculated and according to the design of motion law,the input torque of transmission gear when the cannon drum full load operation is calculated. At the same time, the dynamics simulation analysis for cannon drum full load model is carried out.The transmission gear input moment of force and the power time course curve are obtained. The important reference of type selection for the cannon drum driving device motor and reducer is provided.…”

Lessons Learned on the Application of Vibration Absorbers for Enhanced Cannon Stabilization by Eric Kathe

    Published 2001-01-01
“…This paper will summarize the successful application of muzzle-end vibration absorbers to reduce cannon vibration. This technology constitutes a weapons stabilization approach that focuses on passive mechanical structural modification of the cannon, rather than relying upon an external control law to actively cancel vibrations. …”
